NVIDIA’s new compact generative AI supercomputer is its most affordable yet

NVIDIA unveils its Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit, a compact AI supercomputer with enhanced performance and an affordable US$249 price tag.

NVIDIA has introduced the Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit, a powerful and compact generative AI supercomputer that fits in the palm of your hand. This new model is an upgrade from the Jetson Orin Nano Kit released in 2022 and promises significant improvements in performance and affordability.

The kit includes an 8GB Jetson Orin Nano system-on-module and a reference carrier board, providing everything you need to start exploring advanced AI capabilities.

Enhanced performance for generative AI tasks

The Jetson Orin Nano Super boasts a performance of up to 68 trillion operations per second (TOPS), a 70% improvement over its predecessor. NVIDIA has also enhanced generative AI inference performance by 1.7 times, while memory bandwidth has increased by 50%, reaching 102GB per second. The CPU frequency has also been raised slightly, moving from 1.5GHz in the earlier version to 1.7GHz in this model.

NVIDIA claims the device supports popular generative AI models, such as large language models (LLMs), vision language models, and vision transformers. This makes it an excellent tool for developers working on cutting-edge AI applications like computer vision, robotics, and natural language processing.

Software updates extend support to older models

A key benefit of the Jetson Orin Nano Super is that its software updates are compatible with the original Jetson Orin Nano. You can download the new software to improve its performance if you own the older device. However, NVIDIA has not disclosed specific details about how much of a performance boost you can expect from this update.

Unmatched affordability

One of the Jetson Orin Nano Super’s most attractive features is its price. At just US$249, it is a major price drop compared to its predecessor, which cost US$499. This makes it the most affordable compact generative AI supercomputer on the market today.
