Singapore Polytechnic teams up with Qualcomm for free 5G training

Singapore Polytechnic collaborates with Qualcomm to offer free 5G training and certifications, preparing students for a future in various industries.

Singapore Polytechnic (SP) has joined forces with Qualcomm Technologies to introduce a free 5G training programme for students, as announced on April 8, 2024. This collaboration is part of Qualcomm Academy’s 5G University programme, aiming to equip SP students with essential 5G skills through no-cost courses and certifications.

Bridging the skills gap in 5G technology

The partnership aims to fill the growing need for skilled professionals in the 5G domain, a technology that’s increasingly becoming vital across various sectors such as telecommunications, automotive, healthcare, and manufacturing. By offering SP students free access to 5G training, the initiative seeks to prepare the next generation of workers for the challenges and opportunities presented by this cutting-edge technology.

Opportunities for students

SP students are set to benefit from a range of educational opportunities under this initiative:

  • Introduction to 5G: Students can start with two beginner-level courses, ‘5G Primer and Fundamentals of Cellular Communications’ and ‘5G’, to understand the basics of 5G technology, its applications, and its potential impact.
  • Earning certifications: After completing the beginner courses, students can take an exam to receive a 5G certificate from Qualcomm Technologies. This certification attests to their knowledge of 5G fundamentals and its operational mechanics.
  • Advancing in 5G education: For those aiming for a career in the 5G sphere, there is an option to pursue a more comprehensive and technically detailed associate-level certification. This programme is designed to prepare participants for roles as associate-level wireless engineers.

Since its inception in 2021, Qualcomm Academy’s 5G University Program has reached over 11,000 students globally, offering beginner courses similar to those now available to SP students. This move by Singapore Polytechnic and Qualcomm Technologies underscores the importance of 5G training in today’s technology-driven landscape and reflects a commitment to enhancing the skills of future professionals in the field.
