Sony to showcase 007 First Light in upcoming State of Play

Sony will showcase IO Interactive’s 007 First Light in a 30-minute State of Play livestream on 3 September, offering a deep dive into gameplay.

Sony has announced its next PlayStation State of Play showcase, focusing entirely on 007 First Light, the highly anticipated James Bond game developed by Hitman studio IO Interactive. The event will take place on 3 September at 2 PM ET and will be streamed live on the official PlayStation YouTube and Twitch channels. A version of the presentation with English subtitles will also be uploaded to YouTube after the broadcast.

Fans eager to catch the latest updates can tune in through the streaming platforms or press play on the embedded YouTube video when the showcase begins. The broadcast is expected to run for more than 30 minutes, offering a detailed look at the game and its features.

First look at gameplay and Bond’s origin story

According to IO Interactive, the showcase will include a complete playthrough of the game’s opening mission, which follows a young James Bond on his first assignment. In a blog post on PlayStation’s website, the developer teased “everything from high-speed car chases to on-foot stealth sequences and shootouts.” The event promises a closer look at the action-adventure title’s gameplay mechanics and its approach to bringing the iconic spy’s world to life.

While IO Interactive has not yet confirmed a release date, the game is currently scheduled to launch in 2026. It will be available on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The presentation may provide additional details about the game’s development progress and potential release timeline.

IO Interactive’s legacy with stealth gameplay

IO Interactive’s reputation as a master of stealth and action gameplay has made the studio a natural choice for creating a James Bond experience. The Danish developer is best known for the acclaimed Hitman franchise, which has been widely praised for its intricate level design, strategic gameplay, and creative assassination mechanics.

To showcase its expertise, IO Interactive recently released Hitman World of Assassination, a complete collection of the last three Hitman titles. The bundle arrived on iOS last week, allowing players to try the first location for free, and is also available on PC and consoles.

With 007 First Light, IO Interactive aims to reimagine Bond’s world for a new generation of players, blending cinematic action with the studio’s signature stealth mechanics. The upcoming State of Play is set to give fans their most comprehensive look yet at the title, which is expected to become one of the most anticipated releases of 2026.
