After a strong financial year ending in March 2025, game developer Koei Tecmo Games is boldly moving to grow its development capabilities. You may know them as the team behind popular titles like Ninja Gaiden and Nioh. Now, the company has announced the purchase of new office space in Yokohama, Japan, to support its growing ambitions in high-quality game production. Koei Tecmo has acquired floors 5 through 9 in the East Tower of the Yokohama Symphostage complex. These floors are located just across the street from the company’s current headquarters in Yokohama City. The new space cost the company approximately US$173 million. This investment follows an earlier announcement that the company plans to double its workforce to around 5,000 employees and focus more on developing AAA titles for console and PC rather than mobile games. A step forward for game development In its official announcement, Koei Tecmo stated that the expansion aims to " further expand the development system and create an attractive work environment where employees can maximise their creativity.” The new offices will be designed with collaboration in mind. Large open areas will allow staff to easily communicate and share ideas, which the company believes is key to making top-quality games. In addition to the open design, the new development hub will include advanced and environmentally friendly technologies. This shows Koei Tecmo’s interest in making better games and creating a modern and sustainable workplace. With more room and better tools, the company hopes to support its teams in delivering more ambitious projects. The decision also reflects Koei Tecmo’s focus on high-end development. In recent years, the company has shifted its strategy to favour large-scale game productions, putting more effort into titles designed for consoles and PCS. These types of games take more time, money, and teamwork to create, but they also have the potential for huge success in global markets. Capcom, for example, has recently announced plans to build two new development sites in Osaka.
