YouTrip adds a Malaysian Ringgit wallet to help you save more on JB trips

YouTrip now lets you store MYR and offers free JB shuttles and cashback to celebrate, making your trips across the Causeway more rewarding.

YouTrip has finally introduced a long-awaited feature that makes weekend trips to Johor Bahru (JB) more convenient. As of April 9, you can now store Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) in your YouTrip wallet — just like you already can with Japanese Yen and, more recently, Thai Baht. You can lock in MYR at a reasonable rate whenever the exchange looks favourable.

Previously, although YouTrip allowed you to pay in MYR and other currencies without hidden fees, it didn’t let you store those funds. For those travelling frequently to Malaysia, this was a major drawback. Thankfully, that’s now been solved.

Why the MYR wallet matters to you

If you like to cross the Causeway to enjoy food, shopping, and services in JB, this update can make a big difference. By locking in the MYR rate in advance, you avoid worrying about currency fluctuations. It gives you more control over your travel budget and helps you plan.

The new wallet feature went live after YouTrip saw a sharp increase in demand. On April 9 — when the Singapore Dollar (SGD) traded strongly against the Ringgit at roughly S$1 to MYR3.3 — YouTrip saw a 130% spike in MYR conversions on its app compared to the previous day. Twice as many users locked in MYR rates.

This surge shows users’ keenness for a favourable exchange rate. And it’s not just about helping travellers save money—YouTrip also benefits by increasing active user engagement. The only currencies still missing from the app that travellers would love to see next are the South Korean Won (KRW) and the New Taiwan Dollar (NTD). Once those are added, YouTrip will likely become the go-to card for many more Singaporeans heading abroad.

Free JB shuttle and cashback deals to celebrate

To celebrate this new feature, YouTrip has launched a fun promotion that involves crossing the border. Starting April 19, YouTrip offers free weekend shuttle bus rides from Singapore to Johor Bahru.

This service will run every Saturday and Sunday through May 11, covering four weekends. Buses operate from 9.00 AM to 9:30 PM, leaving every 30 minutes. You’ll board at Kranji MRT station in Singapore and disembark at The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey (North Entrance), in JB. The journey will take about 45 minutes, not counting immigration checks.

Over 15,000 free shuttle slots are available. To book a seat, visit YouTrip’s official Instagram page or Telegram channel. Slots open each Monday before the upcoming weekend, and users can only reserve one round-trip slot—it’s not transferable.

But that’s not all. From April 16 to June 17, 2025, YouTrip gives you more reasons to spend in Malaysia. You’ll receive up to 3% cashback on MYR spending when you spend S$200 or more.

On top of that, YouTrip has launched its first offline retail partnership in Malaysia. At JD Sports, you can earn 10% cashback. Meanwhile, CaRiNG Pharmacy, selected Decathlon outlets, and Lotus’s Malaysia will give you 5% cashback when you shop in-store using YouTrip.

A playful purple sky and a clever launch

As a final surprise, YouTrip revealed it was behind a mysterious purple sky that appeared above JB recently — a stunt that made waves on TikTok. It wouldn’t have been a trick of the light or strange weather if you had seen those videos. YouTrip used augmented reality to create the effect, although they didn’t share exactly how it was done.

It was part of a playful way to promote the new MYR wallet — and it worked. With this launch, YouTrip gives you better tools to manage your money when crossing the border. Whether you’re going for food, shopping, or a quick weekend getaway, having MYR in your wallet before you travel could make all the difference.
