Capcom is considering lowering Monster Hunter Wilds’ GPU requirements while evaluating a free benchmark tool to make the game more accessible.

Monster Hunter Wilds has been making waves in the gaming community with its stunning visuals and ambitious gameplay. However, concerns over its highly recommended PC specifications have sparked discussions among fans. While Capcom is reportedly considering lowering the GPU requirements, rumours about a free hardware benchmark tool remain unconfirmed.

Capcom clarifies benchmark tool rumours

A recent tweet from Monster Hunter’s German Twitter account sparked excitement, claiming that a free hardware benchmark tool was planned for release. Before purchasing, this tool lets you check if your PC can handle Monster Hunter Wilds. The idea is appealing, as it would save players from buying the game and potentially requesting a refund if their system couldn’t keep up.

Unfortunately, the tweet was later clarified as a “translation error.” In a follow-up post, Capcom explained that while a benchmark tool is being considered, no concrete plans have been confirmed yet. While it’s not a definitive no, players must wait for further updates from Capcom before getting their hopes up.

What has been confirmed, however, is that Capcom is evaluating the game’s recommended GPU requirements. Currently, Monster Hunter Wilds’ Steam page advises players to have an Nvidia GTX 2070 Super or RTX 4060 to run the game smoothly. With RTX 4060 cards starting at around US$299, the cost is steep for those who don’t already have high-end hardware.

This news has given hope to gamers with older PCs, as reducing GPU requirements could make the game more accessible. Lowering the specs would allow a wider audience to enjoy the game without investing in costly hardware upgrades.

Stunning visuals justify high specs

Despite the concern over the GPU requirements, the game’s visuals have received universal praise. A recent video showcasing the PS5 performance mode highlights how visually impressive Monster Hunter Wilds is. The expansive environments and detailed creatures demonstrate why Capcom has recommended such powerful GPUs for PC players.

Still, for many fans, the possibility to play the game on older GPUs would be a welcome relief. With the game scheduled to launch on February 28, there’s still time for Capcom to tweak the system requirements and ensure the game is more accessible to a broader audience.

Monster Hunter Wilds is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in the franchise. Early previews have praised the game’s scale and Capcom’s efforts to deliver a polished and innovative experience.
