Coursera launches Skill Tracks to address workplace skill gaps

Coursera launches Skill Tracks to help organisations close skill gaps with role-based, data-driven learning across IT, data, software, and GenAI.

Coursera has introduced a new learning solution called Skill Tracks, designed to help organisations accelerate workforce development through data-backed, role-based training. The global online learning platform announced the launch on 10 September, positioning the product as a way to close critical skill gaps in fast-changing industries.

Tailored learning mapped to job roles

Skill Tracks are structured programmes mapped to specific occupations. They take learners from basic knowledge to advanced proficiency through guided pathways. Each track draws on Coursera’s Career Graph, which combines millions of labour market data points, third-party competency frameworks, and Coursera’s proprietary skills taxonomy to map links between skills, jobs, and training content.

Four Skill Tracks are available at launch: Software and Product, IT, Data, and GenAI. Each provides a clear outline of the skills and courses needed at different role and experience levels. By integrating expert-led content, hands-on practice, and skills verification, the platform enables employees to apply what they learn directly to their work, helping companies achieve measurable outcomes more quickly.

Addressing business transformation needs

The launch comes against a backdrop of rising concerns about workforce readiness. The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 found that 60% of Singaporean employers cite skill gaps as the biggest barrier to business transformation. The report also noted that seven in ten workers will require reskilling within the next five years.

Coursera said its new solution gives leaders the tools to ensure employees are equipped for innovation and productivity. The structured learning framework also aims to improve retention by supporting professional growth.

“Companies are deploying new technology faster than their people can keep pace, and they need learning solutions that are adaptive and personalised,” said Coursera CEO Greg Hart. “Coursera Skill Tracks deliver a learning experience built around occupations and job tasks, and it’s a major step towards helping learners master the right skills to grow their careers. By blending technical skills with institutional expertise, hands-on practice, and skill verification, Skill Tracks ensure training is relevant and immediately applicable.”

Features and future plans

Key features include tailored learning experiences with the option for organisations to add their own content, ensuring alignment with specific tools and workflows. Learners can work towards verifiable credentials through real-world assessments, while managers can track progress and access insights to align skills development with business priorities.

Coursera plans to expand Skill Tracks in the coming months with new subjects and additional features, such as diagnostics to help learners begin at the appropriate level. The company also intends to add verified skill paths with performance-based evaluations that produce job-ready credentials.

Skill Tracks are included for existing Coursera customers with full catalogue access. New customers can purchase them separately or as part of a bundled package with the platform’s wider course offering.
