HoYoverse has announced that Genshin Impact’s next update, Version Luna I, will launch on 10 September, introducing the much-anticipated Nod-Krai region. The new area is part of Snezhnaya, the Siberian-inspired seventh nation in the game’s world of Teyvat. The update, titled “Song of the Welkin Moon: Segue”, marks a significant step forward in the ongoing story, five years after the game’s original release.
Unlike previous updates, Version Luna I does not follow the traditional numbering system, skipping the expected Version 6.0 label. HoYoverse stated that this decision reflects a new approach to storytelling, with a stronger emphasis on character development. The update also signals a gradual rollout of Snezhnaya, similar to the segmented release of Inazuma in 2021.
New characters, mechanics and story content
The update introduces three new playable characters: Lauma, a Dendro 5-star character; Flins, an Electro 5-star; and Aino, a Hydro 4-star. They wield a catalyst, a polearm, and a claymore, respectively. Another key figure in this chapter is Columbina, a former Fatui Harbinger who has retreated to Nod-Krai and is “revered as a Moon Maiden.”
Lunar reactions, first seen in Version 5.8, receive major updates in this release. Flins brings Lunar-Charged attacks combining electro and hydro elements, while Lauma introduces a dendro-based effect called Lunar Bloom. This new mechanic allows players to generate Verdant Dew, a resource that strengthens Bloom-based attacks.
The update also debuts Kuuvahki, an ancient elemental force unique to Nod-Krai. Kuuvahki-infused areas grant players an ‘Empowered’ state, enabling higher jumps and adding new puzzle-solving elements. Kuuhenki creatures, which create glowing Moonlanes for traversal, further expand exploration options. Kuuvahki’s role extends to combat, enabling unique reactions tied to the region’s lore.
A new enemy faction, the Wild Hunt, will also appear in this update. According to HoYoverse, Nod-Krai was the first area affected by the Abyss centuries ago, adding historical depth to the storyline.
Quality-of-life upgrades and anniversary rewards
Version Luna I introduces several quality-of-life enhancements, including the Masterless Stella Fortuna, which allows players to convert an extra 5-star Stella Fortuna to raise characters beyond the current level 90 cap to level 100. The Battle Pass will now feature harvestable materials, and Adventure EXP will be available through more varied activities.
Meeting Points, a new character interaction feature, provides a casual way to engage with characters like Lauma, Flins and Aino. Unlike the quest-based Hangout Events, Meeting Points focus on slice-of-life conversations.
The update also teases Miliastra Wonderland, a creative mode allowing players to design their own stages, which will arrive in Version Luna II. To celebrate Genshin Impact’s fifth anniversary, players will receive a free standard-banner 5-star character, ten Intertwined Fates through a login event, 1,600 Primogems via in-game mail, and two Nod-Krai-themed gadgets, among other rewards.
Genshin Impact Version Luna I launches worldwide on 10 September, setting the stage for a major new chapter in the game’s expanding universe.
