Google Labs introduces Stitch to streamline app design and development

Google Labs launches Stitch, a tool that transforms prompts and sketches into UI designs and front-end code, streamlining app development.

Google Labs has unveiled Stitch, a new experimental tool designed to simplify the process of turning design concepts into functional user interfaces and front-end code. The innovation aims to address the long-standing gap between design and development teams, where significant manual effort and repeated feedback loops have traditionally slowed down the process of building applications.

A collaborative solution built for efficiency

Stitch originated from a collaboration between a designer and an engineer, both of whom sought to improve the way they worked together. By leveraging the capabilities of Gemini 2.5 Pro, Stitch enables a more seamless and integrated workflow. The tool offers a multimodal interface, combining natural language processing with visual input to transform ideas into interactive, code-ready UI designs within minutes.

The tool is built to accommodate a range of user inputs, from text-based prompts to images and sketches. Users can describe the type of application they wish to build using plain English, specifying features like layout preferences and colour themes. Based on these prompts, Stitch generates a visual user interface tailored to the request.

Designed for flexibility and creative freedom

Stitch also supports visual uploads, such as whiteboard sketches, screenshots, or basic wireframes. The system analyses these images to create polished UI designs that maintain the integrity of the user’s original intent. This function makes it easier to translate rough visual concepts into fully formed interface elements without the need for manual redesign.

One of the key strengths of Stitch lies in its support for rapid iteration. Users can quickly test multiple design variants, exploring different styles, components, and layouts. This encourages a more fluid creative process where refinements can be made in real time, without slowing down development.

From concept to code with minimal friction

Beyond generating designs, Stitch offers tools to move seamlessly into development. Designs can be pasted directly into Figma, allowing teams to collaborate and make additional tweaks using familiar workflows. For developers, the tool generates clean front-end code, enabling faster implementation of UI designs with minimal rework.

This dual function of design generation and development support positions Stitch as an accessible bridge between visual thinking and technical execution. It reduces the reliance on multiple tools and handoffs, helping teams to stay aligned and efficient throughout the product creation process.

In introducing Stitch, Google Labs aims to “unlock the magic of app creation for everyone”, empowering designers, developers, and teams of all sizes to move from idea to implementation with greater ease.
