You can now use Claude AI to create and edit Canva designs with ease

You can now design with Canva using Claude AI prompts, thanks to a powerful integration powered by Model Context Protocol (MCP).

If you use Canva to design your presentations, social posts or branding material, there’s good news. You can now create and edit your Canva designs simply by talking to Claude, the chatbot developed by Anthropic. From July 14, you’ll be able to use natural language prompts to design visuals, resize images, fill out templates and even summarise documents — all without leaving the Claude chat window.

This new feature is made possible through Claude’s integration with Canva. It allows you to carry out design tasks simply by describing what you want, rather than navigating the Canva interface. If your Canva and Claude accounts are both on paid plans — which cost US$15 and US$17 per month respectively — you’ll get access to this functionality straight away.

You can also search through Canva Docs, Presentations and brand templates using keywords. Once you’ve found what you’re after, Claude can summarise the content for you, giving you a quick overview without the need to read everything in detail.

MCP makes it all possible

This powerful new feature runs on a system called the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which Canva launched last month. MCP acts like a bridge between Claude and Canva, allowing secure access to your content. It’s an open-source standard — a kind of universal connector — that makes it easier for different platforms to work together.

Think of MCP like the USB-C port of the AI world. It provides apps with a shared way to connect, regardless of who built them. So far, companies like Microsoft, Canva, Anthropic, and Figma are on board with this system, signalling a clear trend toward a future where AI agents can work seamlessly across platforms.

Anwar Haneef, the head of the Canva Ecosystem, explained what this means for you: “Instead of uploading or manually transferring ideas, users can now generate, summarise, review and publish Canva designs, all within a Claude chat. MCP makes this possible with a simple toggle in settings, marking a powerful shift toward user-friendly, AI-first workflows that combine creativity and productivity in one.”

More tools at your fingertips

Claude is the first AI assistant to support Canva workflows using MCP, but this isn’t its only design-related integration. Last month, Claude announced a similar partnership with Figma, another widely used design tool. So if you’re already working with Figma, this means your design experience can now be equally smooth.

To help you manage all these connections, Claude is also launching a new integrations directory for both web and desktop. This directory will show you all the apps and services that Claude can work with, giving you quick access to the tools you use every day.

So, whether you’re creating a quick Instagram post or preparing a professional pitch deck, you can now do it faster and more easily by letting Claude take on the hard work, all while staying inside the same chat window.
