Direct Travel acquires ATPI to create global travel management powerhouse

Direct Travel acquires ATPI, creating a US$6 billion global travel management leader with expanded services and technology innovation.

Direct Travel has announced the acquisition of ATPI, a long-standing strategic partner, in a move that creates one of the world’s largest travel management companies. The combined business will generate more than US$6 billion in annual travel volume and expand its reach across corporate, leisure, events, and specialised travel sectors .

Strengthening global travel services

The acquisition brings together Direct Travel, headquartered in Denver, and ATPI, one of the most experienced international travel and event management companies. The merger builds on years of collaboration between the two firms to meet the needs of global corporate clients. It will also accelerate the global rollout of Avenir Travel Edition, Direct Travel’s next-generation platform that provides real-time data for travel managers and creates new opportunities for travel suppliers .

Christal Bemont, CEO of Direct Travel, said, “ATPI has a commanding presence in the international travel management space and a strong history of collaboration with Direct Travel, making them a perfect fit to strengthen our efforts in delivering exceptional service at scale. This partnership represents a pivotal moment in reshaping managed travel, allowing us to deliver tailored solutions and a seamless experience for clients across a range of sectors and of all sizes and locations. Together, we will redefine what it means to offer The Perfect Trip on a global scale.”

Expanding reach in specialised sectors

ATPI is recognised for its expertise in complex industries including energy, marine, sports, and mining, where travel demands often involve unique challenges. By joining forces, Direct Travel intends to strengthen its presence in these specialised markets while investing further in ATPI’s proven technologies and services .

Ian Sinderson, CEO of ATPI, added, “ATPI and Direct Travel have long held a shared vision for reimagining how the world connects, underpinning a successful commercial partnership. Bringing our two organisations together will enable us to better serve clients collectively, through the combination of our specialised services, innovative technologies, and highly skilled customer teams. By bolstering our already strong position in travel technology and highly specialised travel support, we will combine to provide a compelling alternative to mega-agencies for global travel throughout our range of extensive geographic markets and business lines.”

Building a global network

Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Manchester, ATPI employs around 2,500 staff across more than 100 locations on six continents. Direct Travel, already one of the largest travel management companies globally, said the acquisition underscores its commitment to offering both advanced technology and personalised customer service.

The deal was advised by Jefferies LLC and Perkins Coie LLP on behalf of Direct Travel, while ATPI was represented by Baird as exclusive financial adviser .

The combined entity aims to offer a stronger alternative to established mega-agencies by blending technological innovation with customer-focused service. With Avenir Travel Edition at the centre of its strategy, the company plans to deliver real-time insights, simplify programme management, and create added value for both travellers and suppliers worldwide.
