Google publishes detailed usage limits for Gemini AI

Google clarifies Gemini AI usage limits, detailing daily prompt, image, and research report caps across free, Pro, and Ultra plans.

Google has clarified the usage limits for its Gemini AI service, following months of uncertainty for users. The company has updated its Help Centre article under the section “Gemini Apps limits & upgrades for Google AI subscribers”, replacing vague descriptions with precise figures.

Previously, Google’s documentation only mentioned “limited access” or stated that it “may at times have to cap the number of prompts and conversations you can have, or how much you can use some features, within a specific timeframe.” This left many users guessing about the exact restrictions. The new guidance, however, provides a clear breakdown of what users can expect at each subscription tier.

According to the updated details, free account holders receive up to five prompts per day when using Gemini 2.5 Pro. Those subscribed to the AI Pro plan are allowed 100 prompts daily, while the AI Ultra plan increases that number significantly to 500 prompts.

Image and research report limits

Alongside prompt allowances, Google has also clarified limits on additional features. Free-tier users are capped at five Deep Research reports and 100 generated images each day. For those requiring more extensive use, upgrading to either the Pro or Ultra tier boosts the daily image generation limit to 1,000.

This adjustment addresses a frequent point of confusion among users, many of whom had reported uncertainty about whether heavy image generation or research queries would result in sudden restrictions. By outlining precise daily limits, Google aims to make the service more predictable and manageable for its growing user base.

Encouraging upgrades through transparency

The clearer structure also highlights how Google is positioning its subscription options. Free users gain a small but functional experience of Gemini’s capabilities, while those who need more advanced features or higher usage capacity are encouraged to move to the paid tiers. The Pro and Ultra subscriptions not only raise limits but also make Gemini more appealing to businesses, researchers, and creative professionals who rely on AI for daily workflows.

By laying out the new figures, Google reduces uncertainty while reinforcing its subscription model as a path to greater productivity. The changes also place Gemini in line with competing AI services that have long advertised tiered limits, offering users a clearer understanding of what they are paying for.

Google’s updated breakdown of Gemini usage limits is now live on its Help Centre, giving users a full overview of what each plan includes.
