Google extends repair and warranty programme for Pixel 9 Pro and Fold devices

Google extends repair and warranty programmes for Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices.

Google has launched an extended repair and warranty programme for its latest Pixel smartphones, including the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The move aims to address certain display issues and offer longer support for eligible devices.

Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL repair programme

The extended repair programme applies to a limited number of Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL devices that may experience display problems. Google noted that some users may experience screen flickering or a vertical line running from the bottom to the top of the display. The company did not clarify whether a line that does not extend the full length of the screen would qualify for the programme, leaving some uncertainty over eligibility.

Devices that have suffered cracked displays or cover glass, or show signs of liquid damage, are excluded from the repair programme. Google has emphasised that only devices that meet the specified conditions will be eligible for free repairs.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold extended warranty

Separately, Google has introduced an extended warranty programme for the second-generation Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The company has not provided a detailed list of issues covered under this programme, but confirmed that eligible devices may receive a replacement at no charge.

Similar to the repair programme for the Pixel 9 Pro series, the Fold’s extended warranty excludes devices with a cracked screen, damaged cover glass, or other damage, such as liquid intrusion.

Coverage period and support

Both the repair and extended warranty programmes provide coverage for three years from the device’s original retail purchase date. Google encourages users who suspect their devices may be affected to explore repair and warranty options through its online and in-store support channels.

The company’s initiative reflects a growing trend among smartphone manufacturers to offer longer-term support and proactively address early hardware concerns. By extending the coverage period for the Pixel 9 Pro series and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Google aims to reassure customers and maintain confidence in its flagship devices.

For owners of affected devices, the extended programmes provide an opportunity to address display issues without incurring additional costs. Users are advised to review eligibility carefully and consult Google’s support resources to determine the best course of action.

The extended repair and warranty measures form part of Google’s broader efforts to improve customer experience and device longevity, aligning with practices adopted by other major smartphone makers. While the specifics for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold remain limited, the availability of free replacements for qualifying devices demonstrates Google’s commitment to addressing potential hardware problems.

As the Pixel 9 Pro series continues to compete in the premium smartphone market, the new programmes may provide added reassurance to users concerned about display reliability and long-term performance. Those experiencing screen flickering or vertical line issues are encouraged to act promptly to take advantage of the coverage.
