Mimecast announces new solution to strengthen data compliance in Google Workspace

Mimecast expands compliance tools for Google Workspace users with AI-powered data governance and monitoring across Chat, Drive, Meet and more.

Mimecast has announced a new solution designed to enhance governance and compliance across Google Workspace, extending support beyond email to cover platforms such as Google Chat, Calendar, Drive and Meet. The launch reflects growing concerns over data risks tied to modern collaboration tools, especially in regulated industries where organisations must balance productivity with increasingly strict compliance obligations.

Meeting the challenge of collaboration risk

As more companies rely on tools like Google Workspace to manage daily workflows, new security and compliance challenges have emerged. Mimecast’s recent State of Human Risk 2025 report found that 79% of respondents believe collaboration tools introduce urgent threats, including social engineering, insider risk, and account compromise.

This is particularly problematic for organisations governed by standards such as FINRA, GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, PCI DSS, FOIA and FDIC. Many of these companies face ongoing issues managing and accessing data generated through collaboration platforms, particularly when data volumes grow rapidly.

Mimecast’s new Digital Communication Governance, Compliance, and Insights solution addresses this by providing support for essential use cases like AI-powered archiving, eDiscovery, case management, and compliance monitoring. The goal is to make it easier for IT and compliance teams to manage data risk without disrupting daily collaboration.

New capabilities for Google Workspace users

The solution, built into the Mimecast platform, enables real-time visibility and actionable insights from across the Google Workspace ecosystem. Users can detect policy violations, shape data controls, respond to incidents quickly, and carry out retrospective investigations—all while maintaining compliance standards.

“IT teams face a complex and large volume of compliance requirements, often struggling with manual processes, siloed systems, and incomplete datasets across diverse data sources, including challenges related to data residency,” said Ranjan Singh, Chief Product & Technology Officer at Mimecast. “By combining Mimecast’s expansive global footprint with Google’s leadership in enterprise data sovereignty, we can provide Google Workspace customers with choice and flexibility while helping them mitigate risk, accelerate investigations, ensure resilience across collaborative channels, and unlock actionable insights to drive greater value from their data.”

Among the new features are retrospective access across Gmail and Drive, with support for Meet, Chat and Calendar coming later in the year. Users will also benefit from improved data management tools for archiving and retention, proactive compliance supervision, and the ability to monitor behavioural trends within their communication channels.

Deepening Mimecast and Google partnership

The launch builds on the existing collaboration between Mimecast and Google, expanding upon previous offerings that focused on Gmail compliance. The integration also includes connections with Google Drive to monitor file activity, as well as with Google Security Operations’ SOAR platform for centralised detection and response. Mimecast’s tools offer deeper visibility into log data and help enterprise customers stay ahead of compliance threats.

Mimecast was recently named a leader in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Communications Governance and Archiving. The recognition highlights the company’s ongoing efforts to provide AI-driven, integrated solutions that help businesses manage human risk and stay compliant in today’s fast-evolving digital environment.
