Monster Hunter to debut open-world RPG for mobile players

Monster Hunter is set to hit mobile in an open-world RPG spinoff called Monster Hunter Outlanders, offering a new co-op hunting experience on the go.

The popular Monster Hunter franchise is set to bring its thrilling world of monster hunting to mobile devices. Capcom, the renowned developer behind Monster Hunter, has announced an exciting collaboration with TiMi Studio Group, which is responsible for successful titles such as Call of Duty: Mobile and Pokémon Unite. The new game, Monster Hunter Outlanders, is being developed as a mobile-friendly open-world survival game that lets you hunt, explore, and craft solo or in co-op mode with up to four players.

With Monster Hunter’s core gameplay at its heart, Monster Hunter Outlanders will include all the classic elements of exploration, hunting, and crafting that fans know and love. However, as a mobile title, it will also feature “live service” elements—regular updates and community-driven features—that aim to keep the game fresh and engaging. Expect a social experience as well, with added features to connect with other players, making it ideal for mobile gaming enthusiasts.

A global gaming giant meets mobile innovation

The Monster Hunter series has grown into a massive global franchise, with a loyal fanbase that began expanding significantly with the release of Monster Hunter World in 2018. World became Capcom’s bestselling game and has since set the standard for the series, influencing subsequent releases and a host of spinoff projects. Following the release of world, the franchise introduced a live-action movie, a smaller-scale game called Monster Hunter Rise, and a location-based mobile game in partnership with Niantic, the developer of Pokémon Go.

This latest mobile project comes on the heels of that success and aims to carry the brand into a new arena. For Capcom, teaming up with TiMi is a strategic choice. TiMi’s record of successful mobile adaptations means they have the expertise to transform Monster Hunter into a mobile-friendly experience. TiMi’s experience with Pokémon Unite and Call of Duty: Mobile suggests Monster Hunter Outlanders will be more than a simple adaptation; it promises to use mobile platform capabilities fully.

What to expect in Monster Hunter Outlanders

In a vast, open world, Monster Hunter Outlanders will challenge you to survive, hunt, and craft, much like the traditional games. However, the game will introduce new mechanics specific to mobile devices, enhancing the portability and ease of play for fans on the go. Adding social elements typical in mobile games aims to create a community where players can team up, strategize, and share in the monster-hunting experience together.

For those concerned about quality, the involvement of TiMi Studio Group suggests that Outlanders is likely to be polished and engaging, tapping into both the franchise’s history and TiMi’s mobile expertise. While some fans worry about mobile spinoffs feeling less substantial than their console counterparts, the collaborative track record between Capcom and TiMi signals high expectations for an enjoyable and immersive experience.

The game hasn’t yet an official release date, but Capcom has shared that they plan to hold several playtests before launch. These early trials will allow selected players to experience the game first-hand, giving Capcom and TiMi valuable feedback to refine the experience for the broader release.

Will Outlanders bring a fresh mobile experience?

This mobile expansion is poised to be more than just a revenue-driven move; it’s likely to be a serious attempt to bring the magic of Monster Hunter to an even larger audience. Capcom’s decision to work with TiMi reflects a commitment to delivering a high-quality mobile version that retains the depth of the core series. Given TiMi’s past achievements and the Monster Hunter franchise’s legacy, fans have reason to be optimistic about Monster Hunter Outlanders.
