NTT DATA has introduced a new Smart AI Agent ecosystem designed to transform businesses with industry-specific automation and enhanced decision-making. The announcement also includes a patented plug-in to upgrade legacy bots into autonomous intelligent agents, alongside a strengthened alliance network to provide tailored AI solutions.
The launch reflects NTT DATA’s ambition to support clients through AI-driven transformation by combining advisory, infrastructure, and agent management services into a cohesive offering. Yutaka Sasaki, President and CEO of NTT DATA Group, said, “The rapid evolution of AI presents both immense opportunities and challenges for businesses. At NTT DATA, we have developed the comprehensive capabilities needed to guide our clients through these transformative times and empower them to shape their future with the power of AI.”
Embedding intelligent agents across industries
NTT DATA has already implemented hundreds of Smart AI Agents across several industries. These agents support tasks such as decision-making, compliance monitoring, and fraud detection. In healthcare, the agents are helping to classify and summarise insurance appeals, assess medical necessity, and are set to expand into early interventions, medication adherence, and fraud prevention. In the automotive sector, they analyse regulatory warning letters and will soon manage defect investigations and compliance actions.
In financial services, the AI solutions assist with Know Your Customer (KYC) processes and fraud detection, reducing vulnerabilities in transactions. For supply chain and logistics operations, agents help businesses partner with AI startups, monitor pilot deployments, and evaluate ROI. In marketing, a multi-agent system works with hyperscaler platforms to analyse user behaviour and create psychographic profiles for personalised ad targeting—delivering better sales outcomes.
Abhijit Dubey, CEO of NTT DATA, Inc., described the impact of these technologies: “Agentic AI is the next transformative wave that will impact every sector, far more than what we have seen with Generative AI so far. It’s not just about boosting creativity or productivity. It’s about unlocking new capabilities that can take initiative, make decisions and collaborate with humans in entirely new ways.”
Scalable AI platform and alliance expansion
NTT DATA’s Smart AI Agent Ecosystem is built to help organisations scale agentic AI across multiple business units and functions. The ecosystem includes managed services, embedded AI agents, development tools, and infrastructure that supports both public and private cloud environments. Clients also gain access to a marketplace of language models and agent add-ons.
Security, governance, and ethical considerations are embedded into the ecosystem’s design. According to Pankaj Shah, VP and Chief Information and Digital Officer at Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc., “With their step-by-step advisory approach and outcome-focused strategy, we’re now exploring powerful multi-agent models and identifying new use cases to align with our business objectives and to reimagine how we operate.”
To support development in generative AI, NTT DATA has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with OpenAI. It will establish an OpenAI Centre of Excellence to deploy services using OpenAI APIs tailored for different sectors. The company also continues to work with key partners such as Rafay Systems, which supports platform-as-a-service deployment for GenAI, and Kore.ai, whose enterprise agent platform is used to improve digital workplace operations and customer support.
Turning RPA bots into intelligent agents
A key part of NTT DATA’s announcement is its patented plug-in that allows organisations to convert existing robotic process automation (RPA) bots into intelligent agents. This is intended for companies that want to adopt AI but are restricted by legacy systems. The plug-in gives older bots new capabilities, enabling them to operate autonomously while maintaining compliance with privacy and security policies.
“AI is causing a massive shift similar to the early days of the internet — reshaping how we work, solve problems and create value,” said Dubey. “We’re not just watching this future unfold — we’re driving it. At NTT DATA, we’re delivering clients real, measurable impact from AI solutions already, and this patented, transformative plug-in is just one more proof point of what’s possible when innovation meets execution.”
