Oura has announced a major redesign of its mobile app, introducing expanded stress-tracking tools and revealing ongoing work on a new blood pressure feature designed to detect early signs of hypertension. The updates highlight the company’s growing focus on holistic health insights and early detection technologies.
Expanded stress insights coming soon
The redesigned Oura app will include a new Cumulative Stress feature that helps users understand how their bodies manage and recover from stress over time. Drawing on data from sleep patterns, heart rate, temperature, and physical activity, the feature provides a weekly overview of overall stress balance.
According to Oura, this new feature will allow users to see how various aspects of their lifestyle affect their long-term wellbeing, rather than just offering a daily snapshot. The app’s stress management dashboard will also receive a refreshed layout, providing a more intuitive view of key metrics.
The Cumulative Stress feature and the new dashboard are expected to roll out globally on iOS and Android “in the coming weeks.” The company said these updates are part of its mission to make health data more accessible and actionable for users.
Collaboration with the FDA on blood pressure monitoring
In addition to its stress-tracking improvements, Oura is developing a blood pressure monitoring feature in partnership with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The project will be tested through a new study available to US members of Oura Labs, the company’s early access platform, “in the coming months.”
The study aims to develop a feature capable of identifying early signs of hypertension — a condition characterised by abnormally high blood pressure in the blood vessels. Participants will be asked to provide information about their family medical history, medication use, and lifestyle habits, which will be combined with Oura Ring data to assess their current likelihood of hypertension.
Oura stated that this research could pave the way for more preventive health tools integrated directly into wearable devices, helping users manage their wellbeing proactively.
Competing in a growing health tech market
Oura’s announcement follows a wave of innovation across the wearable health sector. Several Apple Watch models already support hypertension notifications after the feature received FDA clearance in September. Other companies, such as Samsung and Fitbit, have also been expanding their focus on cardiovascular health through continuous monitoring and AI-powered insights.
By combining physiological data with lifestyle information, Oura hopes to distinguish itself as a leader in personalised wellness tracking. The company’s latest updates suggest a strong commitment to research-backed health insights that go beyond simple fitness tracking.
With the addition of stress management and blood pressure monitoring tools, Oura is positioning its platform as a comprehensive wellness companion aimed at improving users’ overall health awareness and quality of life.
