The name of Apple’s next macOS was reportedly revealed ahead of WWDC 2025

According to a trusted leak before WWDC 2025, Apple's next macOS is expected to be called macOS Tahoe, ahead of a major redesign.

With Apple’s WWDC 2025 just days away, you may already have heard whispers about the name of the next macOS. If the latest leak is accurate, the upcoming macOS version will be called macOS Tahoe. This comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has a strong track record for reliable Apple news.

According to Gurman, macOS 26 will be named “Tahoe,” inspired by the stunning Lake Tahoe. This Californian destination is famous for its clear blue waters and lush forests, a fitting image for what’s expected to be a major redesign of the Mac’s operating system.

A fresh new look is coming to macOS

Expect big visual changes in macOS Tahoe. The new design takes cues from Visionos, the operating system behind Apple’s Vision Pro headset. This means you might soon see more rounded corners, translucent elements, and even some 3D-style visuals on your Mac.

While Apple has often kept macOS changes relatively modest, they’re doing a bold refresh this time. The use of nature-themed names like “Tahoe” has always hinted at style and direction, and this time, the name may reflect a cleaner, more immersive user experience.

The redesign is rumoured to align macOS more closely with other Apple platforms, making the user interface more connected across devices like iPhone, iPad, and Vision Pro. If you use more than one Apple product, this may lead to a more seamless experience overall.

What you can expect from WWDC 2025

WWDC 2025 begins next week, and if you follow Apple news, you know it’s the company’s biggest event for software updates. The event typically showcases what’s coming to macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS.

If the rumours are true, you’ll likely see Apple introduce macOS Tahoe with much fanfare, highlighting the new visuals and other improvements. While we don’t know the exact release date, you can expect the software to roll out later in the year, likely around September or October.

Developers will probably get early access to the software next week, and a public beta might follow soon after. That means you could try out the new features in the coming months, well before the full release.

A name that sets the tone

Apple has long named its macOS updates after landmarks and scenic locations across California, such as Monterey, Ventura, and Sonoma. Apple continues that tradition with macOS Tahoe, drawing inspiration from a place known for clarity and calm.

Whether you’re a design fan or looking forward to smoother day-to-day use, this update looks promising. While Apple has not yet shared official details, all eyes will be on the company as WWDC kicks off next week. If you’re curious about what your Mac will look like in the future, you won’t want to miss it.
