Animated noir adventure Mouse: P.I. for Hire releases in March 2026

Animated noir action game Mouse: P.I. for Hire launches on 19 March 2026 with hand-drawn animation, detective gameplay and FPS action.

Mouse: P.I. for Hire has received an official release date, confirming that the animated noir action title will arrive on 19 March 2026. The game, which blends classic cartoon aesthetics with fast-paced first-person action, is notable for featuring Troy Baker in his first role as a rodent private investigator.

Developed with an emphasis on hand-drawn animation and a vintage film noir tone, Mouse: P.I. for Hire draws early visual comparisons to Cuphead. However, early impressions suggest the experience runs deeper than surface-level style. According to previews, the game pairs its charming artwork with unexpectedly layered detective gameplay.

Hand-drawn animation and jazz-inspired aesthetic

Mouse: P.I. for Hire uses hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation to achieve its classic cartoon appearance, reminiscent of early 20th-century animated shorts. This visual design is accompanied by an original jazz soundtrack recorded by an orchestral ensemble, further enhancing the game’s nostalgic and atmospheric style. The overall presentation focuses on a gritty noir tone, blending whimsical character designs with moody lighting and dramatic shading to evoke the feeling of an old detective film.

Troy Baker takes on the role of Private Investigator Jack Pepper, the central character navigating the game’s world of mice, rats and intrigue. Baker’s performance is expected to be a major draw, offering personality and dramatic flair to the character’s journey through mystery, action and revenge.

A blend of detective work and FPS action

While its animation may suggest a light-hearted platformer, Mouse: P.I. for Hire features gameplay elements typically found in first-person shooters. Players will explore environments, gather clues, and solve mysteries while engaging in combat sequences featuring a selection of unusual weapons. Among these is a turpentine gun capable of melting the ink-like exterior of enemies, a detail that highlights the game’s creative approach to combat design.

Despite the cartoon-style violence, previews suggest the narrative and gameplay offer more than just flashy action scenes. This combination of investigative mechanics and combat-driven sequences appears central to the game’s identity. Players will shift between quieter, story-focused moments and energetic encounters that maintain momentum and excitement throughout the experience.

Multi-platform release set for next year

Mouse: P.I. for Hire will be available on a wide range of platforms upon release. The game is scheduled to launch on PC, Switch 2, Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, allowing players across both current and previous console generations to experience the title. A release date trailer is now available for viewing, offering a closer look at the game’s unique visual style and tone. Mouse: P.I. for Hire will release on 19 March 2026.
