Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes launches on 24 April across major VR platforms
Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes launches on 24 April 2026, bringing the horror-puzzle series to VR platforms, including PSVR2 and Meta Quest.
Bandai Namco has confirmed the release of a new entry in the Little Nightmares franchise, this time designed specifically for virtual reality. Titled Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes, the game is scheduled to launch on 24 April and will expand the eerie universe that fans first encountered in the original Little Nightmares titles.
Table Of Content
Unlike previous Tarsier Studios instalments, the upcoming VR experience is being developed by Iconik. Despite the change in developer, the new title remains closely connected to the story and characters established in Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares II.
The game introduces a new perspective on the franchise’s unsettling world by placing players directly inside its haunting environments through first-person virtual reality gameplay.
A familiar story told from a new perspective
Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes builds on the narrative threads introduced in earlier entries in the series. Players will take control of Dark Six, the shadowy counterpart of the franchise’s central character, Six. Dark Six first appeared as a mysterious, unsettling presence in earlier games.
In the new story, Dark Six embarks on a journey through the dreamlike realm known as Nowhere. Her goal is to find and reunite with the real Six to restore what has been lost and become whole again. The story continues the franchise’s tradition of exploring themes of identity, fear and isolation through a surreal horror setting.
The developers describe the game’s setting as an “eerie, atmospheric universe”, maintaining the unsettling tone that has defined the series since its debut. Players will explore new areas of Nowhere, a distorted world that exists within dreams and nightmares. These environments are expected to introduce new puzzles and narrative elements while maintaining the familiar sense of tension and mystery.
Expanding the nightmare world of Nowhere
Nowhere remains central to the Little Nightmares universe. In Altered Echoes, the strange dimension is once again presented as a place shaped by fear and distorted reality. The world is populated by grotesque figures known as Residents, humanoid creatures that embody the series’ unsettling atmosphere.
Players will encounter these disturbing inhabitants as they navigate environments designed to challenge both observation and problem-solving. The series has built a reputation for combining stealth, puzzle-solving and exploration, and the VR version aims to bring those elements into a more immersive format.
The return of the Thin Man also suggests that the story will maintain links to the events of Little Nightmares II. The character served as the main antagonist in the second game and became one of the franchise’s most recognisable figures.
By incorporating returning characters and expanding the mythology of Nowhere, the developers are positioning Altered Echoes as a continuation of the existing storyline rather than a standalone spin-off. The use of a first-person perspective in virtual reality is intended to heighten the sense of dread and vulnerability that defines the series.
Wide VR platform support at launch
Bandai Namco has confirmed that Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes will support a wide range of virtual reality platforms at launch. The game has been optimised for PlayStation VR2 and several popular PC-based VR systems.
Supported devices include Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S, and Oculus Rift and Oculus Rift S headsets. Additional compatibility extends to Pico 4, Valve Index and HTC Vive devices. According to the publisher, the game will also function with other compatible PC VR headsets.
This wide platform support reflects the growing diversity of the VR ecosystem, allowing a larger group of players to experience the franchise in a new format. The shift to VR marks a notable change for the series, which has previously been known for its side-scrolling perspective and cinematic presentation.
The game will become available on 24 April 2026. Players interested in the title can already add it to their wishlists on digital storefronts, including the PlayStation Store, Steam, and the Meta Store.
With the introduction of a first-person VR perspective, Altered Echoes aims to deepen immersion in the unsettling world of Little Nightmares while continuing the story of its mysterious characters.
