Garmin launches fēnix 8 with first-ever MicroLED smartwatch display

Garmin debuts the fēnix 8 MicroLED, the world’s brightest smartwatch with advanced features for athletes and adventurers.

Garmin has unveiled the fēnix 8 MicroLED, its latest premium GPS smartwatch and the first in the world to feature a MicroLED display. The launch marks a significant step forward in wearable technology, bringing greater clarity, durability and brightness for athletes, adventurers and everyday users.

A milestone in smartwatch innovation

The fēnix series has long been known for pushing the boundaries of wearable performance. Previous milestones include the fēnix 6 in 2020, the world’s first solar-powered smartwatch, and the fēnix 7 in 2022, which introduced multi-band GNSS positioning and an integrated LED flashlight. The fēnix 8 builds on this legacy with MicroLED technology, setting a new benchmark for outdoor-ready displays.

“The fēnix series is now changing the game for smartwatches with the first-ever ultra-bright MicroLED display, enabling users to see their maps, stats, health and wellness metrics and more like never before. We’re not only delivering groundbreaking display technology but also reinforcing our commitment to helping users push their limits with tools that are more powerful, reliable, and intuitive than ever before,” said Scoppen Lin, Assistant General Manager, Garmin Asia.

The brightest display yet

Garmin’s integration of MicroLED technology into a smartwatch is a first for the industry. The fēnix 8 MicroLED features more than 400,000 individual LEDs, producing up to 4,500 nits of brightness, making it the brightest smartwatch ever released. The display also offers around 15 per cent wider colour gamut for richer visuals, alongside contrast levels up to six times greater than before.

The MicroLED panel delivers sharper and more vivid images at wider viewing angles, ensuring readability from the side or under direct sunlight. Enhanced burn-in resistance and reinforced durability make the display three times tougher than previous generations, extending its lifespan for long-term use in demanding environments.

Designed for limitless exploration

The fēnix 8 MicroLED is designed to perform across sports, outdoor adventures, and daily life. It comes equipped with Garmin’s full suite of navigation, training, and wellness features. These include endurance and hill scores, daily workout suggestions, preloaded TopoActive Maps, dynamic round-trip routing, and safety and tracking functions. Health tools such as the Garmin ECG app, sleep coach, and heart monitoring are also integrated, alongside contactless payments through Garmin Pay.

Garmin has emphasised that the smartwatch is built to handle a wide range of scenarios, from high-altitude hikes to urban training sessions. Its combination of advanced display technology, rugged durability, and connected features aims to provide a comprehensive experience for professionals and enthusiasts alike.

The fēnix 8 MicroLED will be available in Singapore from October 2025 at a suggested retail price of S$2,649. It will be sold at Garmin Brand Stores, Lazada, Shopee, the Garmin Online Store, Takashimaya, and selected authorised retailers.

Garmin continues to position itself as a leader in wearable technology, reinforcing its commitment to innovation in health and wellness tracking. The company says each new release is designed to give people of all activity levels tools to live healthier, more active lives.
