Ghost adds social syndication and analytics in major 6.0 update

Ghost 6.0 introduces social syndication, analytics, and raises pricing for new Ghost (Pro) plans in its latest major platform update.

Ghost, one of the most popular newsletter publishing platforms, has unveiled a significant update with the release of Ghost 6.0. The latest version introduces a range of new features designed to enhance distribution and reader engagement, while also implementing a price increase for select subscription tiers.

Expanded social web integration

With version 6.0, Ghost now enables publishers to syndicate their content across decentralised social media platforms such as Bluesky, Threads, and Mastodon. This new feature, built on the ActivityPub protocol, allows readers to follow and engage with Ghost publications directly from social web clients.

The company explained the benefit of the new system in a blog post: “Just as people can visit your Ghost website in any browser, subscribe with any feed reader, or receive newsletters in any email client, they can now follow your Ghost publication from any social web client.”

This marks a major shift in how newsletters can be distributed. Instead of relying solely on email subscriptions or web visits, publishers can now reach readers who prefer to browse and engage with content through federated platforms. In addition to content publishing, Ghost’s integrated social web reader allows users to follow and read content from other publications, as well as short-form posts from platforms like Bluesky and Threads.

The syndication feature was previously available in beta for Ghost(Pro) users as of March. It is now available for all publishers using the platform at no cost.

New analytics tools for content performance

Another key addition in Ghost 6.0 is a built-in analytics suite. The native analytics feature enables publishers to monitor content performance in real-time, with the ability to filter data by audience segments.

“Now you can filter all your data by audience to see what’s resonating across public visitors, free members, and paid members in real time, so you can understand what’s working, and make informed decisions about what to publish next,” the company said.

This feature aims to help creators gain better insights into their audience’s preferences and behaviour, empowering them to tailor content accordingly. By offering data on how different membership tiers engage with content, Ghost provides a more strategic view of audience engagement compared to traditional newsletter platforms.

Price increases for managed hosting plans

Alongside the feature upgrades, Ghost also announced an increase in pricing for its Ghost (Pro) plans, which include managed hosting services. The most affordable Starter plan has risen from US$9 to US$15 per month. Meanwhile, the Publisher plan now starts at US$29 per month, up from its previous price of US$25.

The company has assured current subscribers that users paying below the new pricing thresholds will retain their existing lower rates. This means that while new customers will see increased pricing immediately, existing users are not impacted by the change unless they choose to upgrade or modify their plan.

Ghost continues to position itself as an independent, open-source alternative to platforms like Substack, with a focus on giving creators more control over their publishing and monetisation options. The latest update reflects the platform’s commitment to supporting decentralised publishing while enhancing the overall user experience.
