HEINEKEN launches its first Global GenAI Lab in Singapore, partnering with AI Singapore to drive AI innovation and digital transformation globally.

HEINEKEN has announced the launch of its first Global Generative AI (GenAI) Lab in Singapore, aimed at revolutionising how artificial intelligence enhances growth, productivity, and customer engagement across its global operations.

Developed in partnership with AI Singapore, the lab represents a major step in HEINEKEN’s digital transformation. It is designed to develop scalable AI solutions that will improve efficiency and drive innovation across the company’s business processes.

Ronald den Elzen, Chief Digital and Technology Officer at HEINEKEN, highlighted the company’s strategic focus on AI: “HEINEKEN aims to be the world’s best-connected brewer. GenAI will play an increasingly important role in understanding consumer needs, enhancing customer engagement, and improving productivity throughout the company. The establishment of the Global GenAI Lab marks a significant milestone in HEINEKEN’s digital transformation journey, highlighting our strategic focus on advanced GenAI technologies as essential drivers for growth, efficiency, and innovation.”

Strengthening AI capabilities through partnerships

The Global GenAI Lab will function as a centre of expertise, combining HEINEKEN’s industry knowledge with Singapore’s strong AI talent pool and government support. The initiative is expected to enhance operations on both a local and global scale.

Kenneth Choo, Managing Director of HEINEKEN APAC, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “We are pleased to announce our Global GenAI Lab in partnership with AI Singapore. This Lab will serve as a global centre of expertise, driving AI innovation at a local level while enhancing our operations on a global scale. By taking this significant step, HEINEKEN is strategically positioning ourselves for a resilient and thriving future, reaffirming our commitment to Singapore and the Asia Pacific region. By harnessing Singapore’s exceptional AI ecosystem, skilled talent and supportive government policies, we are excited to drive the development of innovative solutions that will transform the beverage industry for years to come.”

The lab will focus on developing advanced AI-driven solutions in key business areas, including automated marketing content creation, financial reporting, and customer support systems. HEINEKEN plans to integrate AI capabilities with human expertise to ensure ethical AI practices while standardising solutions for company-wide use.

Laurence Liew, Director of AI Innovation at AI Singapore, welcomed the partnership: “We are excited to partner with HEINEKEN on this long-term strategic collaboration, marking them as the first organisation to work with AI Singapore in building an AI lab and centre of expertise for AI innovation. By combining HEINEKEN’s industry expertise with AI Singapore’s cutting-edge AI capabilities and talent, we are creating a powerful model for how private and public sector collaboration can drive innovative solutions with real-world impact.”

Building a specialised AI team

HEINEKEN plans to assemble a team of AI specialists within the lab by the end of 2025. The team will include experts from HEINEKEN’s Digital and Technology division as well as AI Singapore’s talent pool, ensuring access to the latest AI research and methodologies.

Chan Ih-Ming, Executive Vice President at the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), emphasised the importance of the initiative: “Singapore welcomes the opening of HEINEKEN’s Global GenAI Lab, which capitalises on Singapore’s position as a talent and innovation hub for companies to pioneer AI solutions. This initiative will allow HEINEKEN to unlock new business value from Singapore, while concurrently serving as a valuable platform to level up on AI talent and capabilities.”

HEINEKEN’s existing AI-driven solutions, such as its financial insights platform and the KIM (Knowledge and Insight Management) tool for marketing teams, have already demonstrated the value of GenAI. The new lab will build on these successes to further integrate AI-powered solutions into the company’s global operations.

HEINEKEN’s decision to establish its Global GenAI Lab in Singapore underscores the city-state’s growing reputation as a leading AI innovation hub, ensuring continued advancements in digital transformation for years to come.
