Motorola launches Edge 70 Fusion with quad-curved 144Hz display
Motorola unveils the Edge 70 Fusion with a 144Hz quad-curved display, a Sony camera, and a 5,200mAh battery, available from US$430.
Motorola has introduced its latest mid-range smartphone, the Edge 70 Fusion, targeting style-conscious buyers in Europe and other markets outside the United States. The new handset combines a high-specification display with a capable camera system, while maintaining a price point aimed at more budget-aware consumers.
Table Of Content
The device stands out for its large, curved screen and Pantone-inspired finishes. Although its internal hardware is firmly mid-range, Motorola is clearly emphasising design, display quality, and photography as the key selling points of the Edge 70 Fusion.
Display and design take centre stage
The Edge 70 Fusion features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, offering smooth scrolling and fluid animations. Motorola claims the handset introduces the world’s first “quad-curved” display, with the panel curving along all four edges to create a seamless look that blends into the frame. This approach is intended to deliver softer lines and a more refined appearance in the hand.
In addition to its high refresh rate, the screen is Pantone-validated for colour accuracy. This certification is designed to reassure users that images and video content appear true to life. The display can also reach a peak brightness of 5,200 nits, making it suitable for use in bright outdoor conditions where glare can otherwise be an issue.
While the new model is slightly thicker than last year’s Edge 70, measuring 7.2mm rather than 5.9mm, Motorola appears to have prioritised durability and battery capacity over extreme thinness. The phone is available in a selection of Pantone-inspired shades, including Orient Blue, Country Air and Sporting Green, all with a fabric-like finish intended to give the device a distinctive look.
Camera upgrades with Sony sensor and OIS
Photography is another area where Motorola is seeking to differentiate the Edge 70 Fusion from its rivals. The main camera uses a 50-megapixel Sony Lytia 710 sensor and includes optical image stabilisation. Combined with an f/1.8 aperture, this setup is designed to improve low-light performance and reduce blur in handheld shots.
Supporting the main camera is a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens that also doubles as a macro lens, enabling close-up photography without a dedicated macro sensor. On the front, the handset features a 32-megapixel selfie camera capable of recording 4K video, a feature not always found in mid-range devices.
Motorola’s focus on imaging suggests the company is aiming to attract users who want strong camera performance without paying flagship-level prices. While the Edge 70 Fusion does not compete directly with premium models in terms of processing power, its camera specifications place it among the more capable options in its price bracket.
Performance, battery and availability
Under the hood, the Edge 70 Fusion is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor. Built around Cortex-A720 and A520 cores and paired with an Adreno 810 GPU, the chipset is said to offer around a 15 per cent improvement in performance compared with the previous model. This should provide adequate power for everyday tasks, social media, video streaming and moderate gaming.
The handset is equipped with a 5,200mAh battery, which is larger than many competing devices in the same category. It supports 68W wired fast charging, although wireless charging is not available. The larger battery capacity, combined with the efficient processor and AMOLED display, is expected to deliver all-day usage for most users.
Durability has also been addressed. The Edge 70 Fusion carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance, indicating protection against immersion and high-pressure water jets. In addition, it meets MIL-STD-810H standards for ruggedness, suggesting it has been tested against drops, vibration and extreme conditions.
The smartphone is set to go on sale in Europe later this month, with prices starting at US$430. At the time of writing, there has been no confirmation of a launch in the United States. For buyers in supported regions, the Edge 70 Fusion offers a blend of striking design, a high-quality display and a capable camera system at a competitive price point.
