Meta plans AI smart glasses with Prada, expanding its tech-fashion reach

Meta is teaming up with Prada to develop AI smart glasses, expanding its wearable tech beyond Ray-Ban with a focus on luxury fashion.

You may soon see Meta and Prada team up to bring AI smart glasses to the fashion world. According to a report from CNBC on Tuesday, Meta is working on a new pair of smart glasses with the luxury Italian fashion house Prada. Although Meta has not officially announced the partnership or release date, this move shows that the tech giant is expanding beyond usual collaborations.

Until now, Meta has mainly worked with EssilorLuxottica, the eyewear company behind big names like Ray-Ban and Oakley. These partnerships have already brought AI-powered smart glasses to the market. However, the Prada collaboration signals a fresh direction—aiming to blend high-end fashion with cutting-edge tech in new ways.

Meta’s fashion-forward strategy

You’re probably familiar with Meta’s popular Ray-Ban smart glasses, which include AI features like voice control and hands-free photo-taking. These have already sold in the millions. With Prada in the mix, Meta is targeting a more fashion-conscious audience.

This isn’t Prada’s first experience with smart eyewear. While EssilorLuxottica does not own Prada, the brand has partnered with the eyewear company for decades to manufacture its glasses. Prada and EssilorLuxottica just renewed their long-running collaboration. So, even though Prada and Meta are working directly together on this project, it’s likely EssilorLuxottica still plays a supporting role behind the scenes.

The goal is to combine Meta’s advanced AI technology with Prada’s luxury design. This could attract consumers who want style and functionality in their everyday accessories.

Oakley smart glasses are on the way, too

That’s not all Meta has up its sleeve. Earlier this week, the company teased another collaboration with Oakley, another EssilorLuxottica brand. Bloomberg reported that the Oakley smart glasses may be announced early on Friday and could be priced around US$360.

These developments suggest Meta is doubling down on its wearable tech efforts and widening its appeal by teaming up with sports and luxury brands. The Oakley line could attract athletes or tech-savvy outdoor fans, while the Prada glasses may be aimed at style-conscious users who want innovation without giving up elegance.

Although Prada glasses have not been officially shown to the public, their existence shows Meta’s growing interest in merging fashion with function. And if its earlier success with Ray-Ban is anything to go by, the Prada collaboration could mark the next major step in AI eyewear.

Keep your eyes peeled—Meta’s AI might power your next pair of stylish sunglasses.
