Razer’s Barracuda X Chroma wireless headset gets an RGB upgrade

Razer’s Barracuda X Chroma wireless headset adds vibrant RGB lighting and enhanced connectivity to its lineup. It is available now for S$199 in Singapore.

Razer has unveiled the Barracuda X Chroma, the latest addition to its wireless headset lineup, which is now available in Singapore. This refreshed model keeps the familiar design and performance of the original Barracuda X but adds a vibrant RGB lighting feature, making it perfect for gaming and casual use alike.

Customisable RGB lighting steals the spotlight

The standout feature of the Barracuda X Chroma is its colour-changing RGB lighting—both the Razer logo and the surrounding ring light up, creating a visually striking effect. With six customisable lighting zones, you can tweak the colours and effects using the Razer Audio app on your smartphone or Razer Synapse on your PC.

The RGB lighting works seamlessly whether gaming on a PC or listening to music on your phone. However, there’s a trade-off — enabling the Chroma lighting effects significantly reduces battery life. While the headset boasts an impressive 70-hour battery life without lighting, using the RGB feature cuts it down to 35 hours.

Top-notch audio and build

The Barracuda X Chroma features Razer’s 40mm TriForce drivers, delivering high-quality sound for games, music, and movies. Weighing 285g, it is slightly heavier than its predecessor, the original Barracuda X, due to the additional RGB components and Bluetooth connectivity. The boom microphone is removable, making it convenient to use the headset solely for media consumption.

Connectivity is a breeze with options for both Bluetooth and the Razer HyperSpeed USB-C dongle, which operates on a 2.4GHz connection. This offers reduced latency, dropping response times to just 20ms compared to the 25ms of the previous model.

While the Barracuda X Chroma excels in versatility, it lacks active noise cancellation (ANC), a feature in the premium Barracuda Pro. If ANC is essential for you, it’s worth exploring the higher-end option.

Pricing and availability

The Razer Barracuda X Chroma is available in black and white and costs S$199. It can be purchased from the official Razer store or through popular online platforms such as Lazada and Shopee.

This slight price increase over the original Barracuda X reflects the added RGB lighting and enhanced connectivity features, making it an appealing choice for those who value style and functionality in their headphones.
