Apple may introduce reverse wireless charging on iPhone 17 Pro

Apple may introduce reverse wireless charging in the iPhone 17 Pro, allowing users to power AirPods and Apple Watch without extra cables.

Apple is reportedly working on a reverse wireless charging feature for the iPhone 17 Pro, allowing you to charge accessories like AirPods and Apple Watch directly from your phone.

Apple tests reverse wireless charging for iPhone 17 Pro

According to tipster Instant Digital, Apple is testing a 7.5W reverse wireless charging system for the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro. This feature could be a game-changer, letting you wirelessly charge smaller Apple devices when you don’t have a charger handy. If implemented, this could be useful when your AirPods or Apple Watch run out of battery and need a quick top-up.

Apple is not entirely new to reverse wireless charging. In 2021, the company introduced a limited feature version with the MagSafe Battery Pack for the iPhone 12. This allowed the iPhone to charge the battery pack when plugged into a power source. However, the feature was discontinued in 2023 when Apple stopped selling the MagSafe Battery Pack.

Reverse wireless charging was planned for earlier models

Rumours about Apple introducing full reverse wireless charging have been circulating for years. According to a report from 9to5Mac last year, Apple had initially planned to include the feature in the iPhone 14 Pro. However, the plan was scrapped due to engineering delays, preventing its release.

Apple is now reportedly testing the feature for the iPhone 17 Pro, which suggests the company is making progress in overcoming technical challenges. It could provide iPhone users with a convenient way to charge their accessories without additional cables or chargers.

While Apple has not officially confirmed this yet, the development of reverse wireless charging for the iPhone 17 Pro is an exciting possibility. As the launch of the new iPhone series approaches, more details may emerge about whether this long-awaited feature will finally become a reality.
