Cyberpunk 2077 finally arrives on Macs this week

Cyberpunk 2077 arrives on Mac on July 17 with the Ultimate Edition, support for Apple Silicon, and Mac-exclusive features, including Spatial Audio.

You’ve waited long enough – but at last, Cyberpunk 2077 is officially coming to Mac. Despite Apple’s announcement during the M4 MacBook Pro reveal last year promising the game would arrive in “early next year,” the highly anticipated title missed that mark. However, the good news is that you can start playing Cyberpunk 2077 on your Mac beginning Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 9 PM.

What to expect from the game

If you’re unfamiliar with Cyberpunk 2077, it was one of the most hyped game releases of 2020. Set in the gritty, futuristic world of Night City, this action-packed role-playing game lets you step into the shoes of V, a mercenary navigating a world of cyber-enhanced humans and corrupt corporations. Along the way, V becomes entangled in a mysterious story involving the digital ghost of Johnny Silverhand, a rebellious rock star and former terrorist, played by Keanu Reeves.

The version arriving on Mac is the Ultimate Edition, so you’re getting more than just the base game. It includes the complete Phantom Liberty expansion, where actor Idris Elba stars as Solomon Reed, a secret agent caught in high-stakes espionage. Also included are all major updates and improvements released so far, such as Patch 2.3, which introduces a new photo mode, additional vehicles, and performance tweaks.

What you’ll need to play on your Mac

To enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 on your Mac, you’ll need an Apple Silicon machine with at least 16GB of unified memory, running macOS 15.5 or later. That includes models powered by the M1 chip and later, meaning even older Apple Silicon Macs can participate in the action.

Apple has worked closely with CD Projekt Red to ensure the game performs smoothly on Mac hardware. The game will come with “For this Mac” graphics presets, specifically optimised for each Apple Silicon model. You’ll also benefit from dynamically calibrated HDR, tailored for Apple’s XDR displays, giving you vibrant, lifelike colours and sharp contrast during gameplay.

One Mac-exclusive feature is head-tracked Spatial Audio for AirPods users, which adds a more immersive sound experience that reacts as you move your head—something not currently available on other platforms.

For those interested in what’s under the hood, the game uses Apple’s Tile-Based Deferred Rendering. This helps boost efficiency by breaking up the screen into tiles and processing them in small chunks, thereby balancing performance and memory usage. This is another reason why the game is expected to run smoothly on a wide range of Mac models.

CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that support for Apple’s new Metal 4 API will be available later this year through a software update. This should provide even better performance and image quality for Mac users.

Where and how to get it

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on July 17, 2025, on several platforms. You can download it through the Mac App Store, or buy it via Steam, GOG.com, or the Epic Games Store. Pricing hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but it’s expected to be similar to other platforms, around US$59.99 for the Ultimate Edition.

Whether you’re revisiting Night City or diving in for the first time, this marks a big moment for Mac gaming. With high-end features, exclusive audio enhancements, and full content included, the Mac version of Cyberpunk 2077 could easily become one of the most impressive titles to hit the platform.
