Keeper Security publishes back-to-school cybersecurity guide for schools and families

Keeper Security has launched a back-to-school cybersecurity guide to help schools and families strengthen digital safety against rising threats.

Keeper Security has launched a new cybersecurity guide aimed at schools, parents, and students, addressing the increasing risks faced by the education sector. The white paper, titled “Cybersecurity in Schools 2025: A Family and Educator Guide to Safer Digital Learning,” highlights practical steps to strengthen digital safety.

The launch comes amid a surge in cyberattacks targeting educational institutions worldwide. According to Comparitech, ransomware incidents involving schools, colleges, and universities increased by 23% year on year in the first half of 2025. Despite this, research conducted by Keeper shows that only 14% of schools currently require cybersecurity training, leaving many institutions vulnerable.

Practical guidance for safer digital learning

The guide offers a range of resources designed to support families and educators. It includes the latest data on cybersecurity risks, checklists for safer online learning environments, and best practices to counter the growing use of artificial intelligence in cyberattacks.

Darren Guccione, CEO and Co-founder of Keeper Security, said: “Cybersecurity delivers the greatest value when it is proactive rather than reactive. By making strong security simple and accessible, schools can remain focused on education – and students on learning – without the disruptions or distractions posed by today’s sophisticated cybersecurity threats.”

Keeper’s solutions are built around zero-trust and zero-knowledge principles, tailored to the needs of public and educational sectors. Its unified platform brings together enterprise password management, secrets management, zero-trust network access, and endpoint privilege management. These are enhanced with agentic AI-driven threat detection and response to help schools protect sensitive data, meet compliance standards, and reduce the risk of breaches.

The company’s cloud-first approach also makes deployment easier for administrators, enabling them to safeguard student and staff information while ensuring lessons are not interrupted. Keeper holds certifications such as FedRAMP and GovRAMP Authorisations, which demonstrate the trust and scalability required by public institutions.

Commitment to digital safety in education

The new guide is part of Keeper Security’s broader efforts to promote cybersecurity awareness across education. In 2024, the company launched the Flex Your Cyber initiative, a public service campaign created in partnership with KnowBe4, the National Cybersecurity Alliance, CYBER.ORG, and Atlassian Williams Racing. The programme delivers age-appropriate resources to students, teachers, and parents, encouraging responsible and secure online behaviour.

With schools facing an environment where cyber threats are evolving quickly, Keeper’s guide and initiatives aim to give educators and families the tools they need to protect against attacks. The company emphasises that digital safety is now a shared responsibility, requiring proactive measures from institutions and households alike.
