Amazon’s AI voice feature lets you listen to product summaries

Amazon's new voice summary feature lets you hear AI hosts discuss product features using reviews and web info.

Amazon is trying a new feature that lets you hear about a product instead of reading through the details. With the help of artificial intelligence (AI), you can now listen to two AI “hosts” talk about a product’s features, giving you a summary based on official information, customer reviews, and online content.

This new feature is only available on Amazon’s mobile app for a few products. Some items included in this early test are the Ninja Blender, OSEA Undaria Algae Body Oil, SHOKZ OpenRun Pro headphones, and the SafeRest Waterproof Mattress Protector. If you see a button that says “Hear the highlights” below a product, you’re one of the lucky users who can try it.

How the AI summaries work

When you tap the audio button, the clip begins with a friendly message reminding you that you’re listening to AI-generated content. Then, an AI “host” introduces you to another AI “expert” who walks you through the product’s main features in a conversational tone.

It works like a podcast. For example, in the summary for the SHOKZ OpenRun Pro, the host introduces a character named “Max.” Max explains that these special headphones work by sending sound through your cheekbones rather than directly into your ears. This feature could appeal to people who prefer not to have anything inside their ears while listening to music or making calls.

The host then asks follow-up questions about who these headphones are best for and the sound quality. Max responds by saying the microphone gets good feedback for its ability to block out background noise. However, some users say the volume isn’t loud enough for a full music experience. Still, Max adds, customers mention that these headphones sometimes work better than traditional earpods.

What this means for shoppers

This feature could change how you shop on Amazon. Instead of reading long product descriptions or going through endless reviews, you can now press a button and get a quick, easy-to-understand audio summary. It’s ideal if you’re in a hurry or prefer listening instead of reading.

The AI voiceovers include product details, customer feedback, and extra information found on the internet. Amazon hopes this tool will help you make quicker and more confident buying decisions.

Currently, the feature is only available to selected customers in the United States. But Amazon says it plans to expand the tool to more users and products in the “coming months.” If it proves successful, this option might soon be available across the entire site.

With voice technology continuing to grow, this new approach could make online shopping more personal and convenient.
