Apple accelerates Vision Pro production for early release

Apple is fast-tracking the launch of its Vision Pro headset, priced at US$3,499, targeting a February release with extensive preparations, including developer updates and staff training.

In an unexpected turn, Apple is now gearing up to launch its much-anticipated Vision Pro headset in February. This latest development comes from Mark Gurman, a reliable source for Apple-related news.

Initially unveiled in June with a price tag of US$3,499, the mixed-reality headset was slated for an early 2024 release in the United States. However, recent reports suggest an advancement in the timeline, with Apple potentially introducing the product in stores as early as March. A report by Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, indicates that Apple is intensifying its production efforts, targeting a February launch.

Developers urged to prepare for imminent launch

In a significant move, Apple has reached out to software developers, encouraging them to fine-tune their apps with the latest tools and submit them for feedback. This step is a clear signal from the tech giant that the release of Vision Pro is just around the corner.

Training sessions signal readiness for launch

Further evidence of the imminent launch is seen in the specialised training sessions at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters. Store staff from various locations are being trained to assist customers with the Vision Pro headset, arguably Apple’s most complex product to date. The training focuses on ensuring customers find the perfect fit, including selecting the right headband, achieving an effective light seal, and accommodating prescription lenses if needed.

Price point and alternative options

The Vision Pro, with its hefty price tag, might be out of reach for many consumers. It is a significant investment that costs more than double a top-tier iPhone 15 Pro Max. In light of this, Apple is reportedly considering a more budget-friendly version of the Vision Pro, equipped with fewer features but still attractive enough to entice customers.

While Apple appears committed to a rapid launch, it’s worth noting that last-minute production challenges or other unforeseen issues could still push back the release date.
