Beeper’s final stand against Apple

Beeper announces its ultimate fix for the Beeper Mini iMessage for Android app, potentially concluding its prolonged tussle with Apple.

Beeper has announced what seems to be its final face-off with Apple in their prolonged dispute over its iMessage for Android app. The Beeper Mini chat application has issued yet another update following Apple’s recent blockade of the iMessage platform. The company has indicated that this update will be their last attempt to maintain compatibility with Apple’s services.

In a recent blog, Beeper declared they were finished with the “cat-and-mouse game” against Apple, the globe’s largest company. They believe their latest software release may be something Apple can “tolerate” and have no plans to respond if this solution is disabled by Apple.

The final fix explained

The latest Beeper workaround is somewhat complex. It involves linking a current mobile device to a Mac or an older iPhone model. Mac users with Beeper Cloud should be able to update and reconnect, although not all macOS versions are compatible. Users can also utilise an iMessage registration code from a friend’s Mac with Beeper Cloud in conjunction with the desktop app.

An alternative option is jailbreaking an older iPhone model (6/6s/7/8/X) to generate an iMessage registration code for the latest Beeper Mini app. Beeper is even offering jailbroken iPhones for hire or purchase for this purpose, noting that jailbreaking can be daunting for novices.

Looking ahead

Users are at a disadvantage without a Mac or an older iPhone, or access to either. Beeper has committed to preserving chat histories for those who might later acquire an old device.

The clash between Beeper and Apple has been ongoing for a month, beginning with the launch of Beeper Mini, which enabled iMessage support on Android devices through a software exploit. Apple’s subsequent actions led Beeper to develop a series of intricate fixes, drawing attention from US lawmakers and prompting calls for a DOJ investigation.

Should Apple impede this final fix, it could signal the end of Beeper Mini’s iMessage integration. Nevertheless, Beeper has released the software as open-source and is concentrating on improving its primary chat application, aiming to transform it into the “best chat app on Earth.”
