Canon introduces EOS R6 Mark III and RF45mm f/1.2 STM for creators and enthusiasts

[output_post_excerpt]

Canon has announced two new additions to its EOS R mirrorless system – the EOS R6 Mark III full-frame camera and the RF45mm f/1.2 STM lens – both designed to deliver professional-grade performance in a more accessible package for hobbyists and advanced users.

Enhanced performance and imaging power

Building on the success of the EOS R6 Mark II released in 2023, the new EOS R6 Mark III brings a 32.5-megapixel sensor, offering higher resolution, improved detail, and greater flexibility for cropping distant subjects. The camera retains impressive speed, capable of shooting up to 40 frames per second with an electronic shutter and 12 frames per second with a mechanical or first-curtain shutter.

Canon has also introduced a pre-continuous shooting mode, which allows up to 20 frames to be captured before the shutter button is fully pressed. This ensures photographers can capture fleeting moments with precision. The autofocus system has been enhanced for more reliable subject tracking and includes the Register People Priority feature, inherited from Canon’s flagship EOS R1, enabling recognition and tracking of specific individuals during group shots or events.

Andrew Koh, Senior Vice President and Head of Singapore Operations Group at Canon Singapore, said, “At Canon Singapore, we are committed to providing individuals with tools that inspire creativity and passion. The EOS R6 Mark III, combined with the uniquely positioned RF45mm f/1.2 STM, delivers a holistic, high-performance imaging package that redefines what creators can achieve. We are advancing imaging technology while making professional-grade performance more accessible to enthusiasts and creators.”

Expanded video capabilities

The EOS R6 Mark III significantly upgrades its video capabilities with support for 7K 60p internal RAW recording to a CFexpress Type B card and 3:2 Open Gate recording up to 7K 30p RAW. This flexibility benefits creators producing content for both horizontal and vertical formats. Users can also record proxy or secondary MP4 footage simultaneously on an SD card for efficient post-production workflows.

The camera now supports multiple recording formats, including Canon Log 2, Canon Log 3, HDR PQ, and HLG gamma. It is compatible with the Cinema EOS range’s Custom Picture profiles, enabling users to apply custom LUTs for different shooting styles and output requirements. Canon has introduced a new LUT Library, accessible via the Camera Connect app, allowing users to import and manage LUTs directly on the camera.

Other professional tools such as waveform monitors, false colours, and zebra patterns ensure accurate exposure during video shoots. The new AWB Response and Shockless WB features enable smooth white balance transitions during filming, while 14 built-in colour filters provide quick creative grading options. The Slow & Fast (S&F) mode also allows users to record 4K fast motion up to 60x and slow motion up to 7.5x.

Compact, accessible, and versatile lens design

The newly introduced RF45mm f/1.2 STM lens marks Canon’s widest-aperture non-professional lens in the RF lineup. With a compact and lightweight design weighing approximately 346g, it offers users access to the distinctive shallow depth of field and low-light capabilities of an f/1.2 lens at a lower cost.

The 45mm focal length offers a natural perspective, ideal for both environmental and portrait photography. When paired with APS-C cameras such as the EOS R50, it provides a 72mm equivalent field of view suited for portraits and street photography. The lens employs plastic moulded aspherical elements and a gear-type STM motor with a magnetic detection system, delivering fast and quiet autofocus performance.

Paired with the EOS R6 Mark III’s 5-axis image stabilisation, the RF45mm f/1.2 STM enables sharper images at slower shutter speeds and lower ISO levels. This combination offers users strong cost-performance value, with the benefits of advanced imaging features at an accessible price point.

Pricing and availability

Canon confirmed that the EOS R6 Mark III and RF45mm f/1.2 STM will be available from 20 November 2025. The EOS R6 Mark III body is priced at S$3,699, with kit options including the RF24-105mm f/4L IS USM (S$5,499) and the RF24-105mm f/4–7.1 IS STM (S$4,229). The RF45mm f/1.2 STM lens will retail for S$599.
