Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance modernises digital operations with Solace platform

Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance adopts Solace’s event-driven integration platform to improve data flow, efficiency, and customer service.

Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance has modernised its digital infrastructure by deploying Solace’s real-time, event-driven integration platform, a move aimed at improving efficiency, streamlining data sharing, and enhancing customer service. The initiative supports the insurer’s broader push to remain competitive and deliver more personalised experiences to its policyholders.

Enhancing data flow and operational agility

Founded in 1934, Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance is the state’s largest farm insurer and a leading provider of auto and home insurance. The organisation decided to overhaul how its systems communicate to keep pace with rising customer expectations and more complex risk environments. Extreme weather events, for example, have increased the need for accurate and timely risk modelling.

By introducing Solace’s event mesh architecture, the insurer has connected data centres, cloud services, and external partners to enable instant access to vital information. This includes real-time updates on policies, claims, and customer interactions, helping to eliminate data silos and improve decision-making across core departments such as underwriting, claims, and customer service.

The updated infrastructure also supports digital initiatives like the company’s online customer portal and self-service tools. These upgrades aim to provide faster responses, greater transparency, and improved convenience for policyholders.

Driving innovation through event-driven architecture

Jarvis Ka, Director of Enterprise Architecture at Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, said the shift was necessary to sustain growth and meet the demands of modern insurance operations. “As an insurance leader serving auto, home, renters, life, farm and business insurance customers, we recognised that our continued growth and competitiveness required evolving from traditional integration patterns to a modern, event-driven architecture that prioritises both agility and innovation. We selected Solace as the foundation for our architectural modernisation because it provides the event mesh capabilities we need to build decoupled, cloud-based systems while maintaining the reliability our customers expect,” he said. Ka added that Solace’s support during early implementation has set the stage for real-time data applications and improved developer experiences.

The insurer purchased Solace’s platform on a subscription basis through the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace, which also provided financial benefits.

Supporting long-term digital transformation

Sean Brown, RVP, Americas at Solace, said the collaboration positions Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance for future growth. “We’re proud to support Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance in modernising their integration architecture to meet the real-time demands of their business. With an event-driven integration platform in place, they are now well-positioned to evolve their digital services toward commoditised, convenience-focused offerings, helping them best differentiate through local expertise and personalised services.”

The modernisation marks a significant step in Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance’s strategy to adapt to shifting market dynamics, enhance operational resilience, and provide faster, more seamless customer experiences.
