JLR and Tata Communications join forces to create smarter connected vehicles

JLR and Tata Communications team up to redefine connected luxury vehicles, offering smarter features, real-time updates, and global connectivity.

JLR announced an expanded partnership with Tata Communications to enhance the connectivity of its next-generation vehicles. Through the Tata Communications MOVE platform, JLR aims to deliver uninterrupted digital services, intelligent features, and seamless over-the-air software updates to customers worldwide, including in remote locations across 120 countries.

Marco Bijvelds, Vice President and Global Head of Tata Communications MOVE, underscored the significance of the partnership, stating, “The automotive industry is continually innovating to meet ever-changing customer demands. Last year, our digital fabric enabled seamless connectivity across all JLR’s production sites globally. As part of our extended partnership, we’re now powering JLR’s software-defined vehicle journey worldwide and enabling them to deliver advanced driving features in their cars.”

This partnership represents a continuation of JLR’s strategy to integrate cutting-edge technology into its vehicles. Beginning in 2026, the collaboration will debut in JLR’s medium-sized SUVs developed on the Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform. These vehicles will feature seamless transitions between mobile networks, ensuring uninterrupted access to personalised services, such as media streaming, and enabling enhanced security for data exchange between JLR and its customers.

Data-driven insights for smarter driving experiences

Every day, JLR’s fleet of connected vehicles generates 2.5 terabytes of data, while 500,000 electronic control units (ECUs) are updated monthly. The integration of Tata Communications MOVE platform will allow JLR engineers to monitor vehicle performance in real time, harness deeper insights, and deliver faster and more efficient over-the-air updates.

This capability promises to improve vehicle maintenance and servicing, ultimately reducing costs for customers. Mark Brogden, Director of Digital Product Platform Off-Board at JLR, commented, “The partnership with Tata Communications is the next step in our software-defined vehicle journey, offering highly secure and cost-effective data connectivity across 120 countries. Starting in 2026 with our next generation of medium-size luxury SUVs, Tata Communications MOVE aims to deliver continuous connected experiences for our clients, offering features and new software updates over-the-air to meet the expectations of our luxury client base.”

The advanced vehicles will also support evolving driver assistance systems (ADAS), making journeys safer and more intelligent. Customers can expect real-time vehicle location tracking, improved diagnostics, and tailored connectivity plans to keep their families connected to their preferred applications.

A smarter future for JLR’s luxury vehicles

JLR has long been at the forefront of automotive connectivity. Brogden highlighted the company’s leadership in this area, “JLR was the first luxury vehicle manufacturer to introduce dual modem, dual eSIM design for enhanced connectivity with the launch of Defender in 2020.”

Building on this foundation, the extended partnership with Tata Communications will elevate the driving experience to new heights. The MOVE platform ensures resilient wireless communication technologies, even in challenging environments, while opening doors to personalised customer experiences and new revenue opportunities.

Bijvelds reinforced the potential of these innovations, saying, “The insights derived from the data exchanged through our platform will enable JLR to offer personalised customer experiences, opening doors for new revenue streams.”

By aligning advanced technology with customer expectations, JLR and Tata Communications are shaping the future of connected luxury vehicles, delivering smarter, more efficient solutions to drivers worldwide.
