OpenAI to launch job platform and AI certification scheme

OpenAI will launch an AI job platform and certification scheme to help employers find talent and upskill job seekers.

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has announced plans to launch a new job discovery platform alongside an official certification programme for artificial intelligence skills. The move is designed to support both job seekers and employers in a market where AI knowledge is increasingly in demand.

A new hub for AI talent

The new service, known as the OpenAI Jobs Platform, will act as a dedicated space for candidates with AI expertise to connect with companies seeking such skills. OpenAI says it intends the platform to function as a rival to LinkedIn, focusing specifically on the growing field of artificial intelligence.

The company emphasised that it will not only cater to large corporations but will also provide a level playing field for small businesses and government agencies searching for talent. “And we’ll use AI to help find the perfect matches between what companies need and what workers can offer,” the company explained in its announcement.

To support this initiative, OpenAI will build on its existing free learning repository, OpenAI Academy. The academy already provides resources for people wishing to develop their understanding of AI, and it will serve as the foundation for the company’s new certification programme.

Recognising AI expertise

Alongside the jobs platform, OpenAI will introduce a formal certification system. These OpenAI Certifications will be awarded to candidates who complete training courses and demonstrate the necessary level of AI proficiency. The company believes these certificates will help job seekers prove their skills and give employers confidence in their recruitment choices.

OpenAI has set itself an ambitious goal of certifying ten million Americans by the end of the decade. The scale of the plan reflects the rapid growth of AI across industries and the increasing need for workers who can understand and apply such tools.

Government support for AI education

The initiative comes at a time when the United States government is actively promoting AI education. In April, President Donald signed an executive order aimed at advancing AI-focused learning. The directive is intended to help young people gain relevant skills while also equipping educators with the tools needed to teach artificial intelligence effectively.

The U.S. Department of Labour has also highlighted the importance of AI training under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, which supports efforts to boost literacy in emerging technologies. Additionally, America’s AI Action Plan directs federal agencies to make AI skill development a central objective when allocating funds for education and workforce programmes.

Through its combination of a dedicated jobs marketplace and a new certification scheme, OpenAI aims to bridge the gap between the growing demand for AI knowledge and the workforce’s current skill levels. The company says its goal is to create opportunities for individuals while providing employers with access to qualified candidates.
