Veeam and Palo Alto Networks announce partnership to enhance security operations and data resilience

Veeam partners with Palo Alto Networks to streamline cybersecurity, enhancing data resilience and automating responses to ransomware attacks.

Veeam Software, a global leader in data resilience, has unveiled a new collaboration with cybersecurity giant Palo Alto Networks. This partnership aims to simplify security operations and strengthen the resilience of critical business data. The integration focuses on protecting data backups and enhancing organisations’ ability to respond to cyber threats, using Veeam’s new applications and Palo Alto Networks’ advanced Cortex platforms.

New apps streamline cyber threat detection

Veeam announced the integration of its applications with Palo Alto Networks’ Cortex XSIAM and Cortex XSOAR platforms. This collaboration makes Veeam the first Palo Alto Networks partner to independently design data collectors, dashboards, and reports for Cortex XSIAM. The apps are designed to improve the efficiency of detecting and responding to cyberattacks, helping businesses safeguard their backup data from increasingly common ransomware threats.

Dave Russell, Senior Vice President of Strategy at Veeam, stated: “Cyber threats are a reality for every single organisation. It takes teamwork to fight this escalating battle against ransomware. We are excited to integrate with Palo Alto Networks to provide customers with capabilities to further strengthen their data resilience.”

Veeam’s 2024 Ransomware Trends Report revealed that 96% of ransomware attacks target backups, putting immense pressure on IT and security teams to protect critical data. Traditional tools often fall short when scaling for large enterprises, leading to an overload of alerts and inefficient manual processes.

AI-driven automation enhances security

To address these challenges, Veeam and Palo Alto Networks have developed new solutions that leverage automation and artificial intelligence. By integrating Palo Alto Networks’ AI-driven Security Operations Centre (SOC) platform with Veeam’s robust recovery capabilities, organisations can quickly detect and respond to cyber threats. This helps ensure the resilience of their essential data and mitigates the risk of long-term damage from cyberattacks.

Pamela Cyr, VP of Technical Partnerships at Palo Alto Networks, added: “We are thrilled to collaborate with Veeam, empowering organisations to respond and react more quickly to threats facing their critical data. The new integration demonstrates our shared commitment to providing organisations with tools and technologies that help them proactively combat evolving cyber threats and strengthen their security posture.”

The two new apps – Veeam apps integrated with Cortex XSIAM and Cortex XSOAR – enable companies to monitor and detect security incidents impacting their data backups. The Veeam app for Cortex XSIAM centralises security data from Veeam Backup & Replication and VeeamONE, providing a complete view of security-related activities. Meanwhile, the Cortex XSOAR app conducts regular queries to detect significant security events. Both apps are available to Veeam Data Platform Advanced and Premium customers at no extra cost.

Boosting security capabilities for enterprises

This partnership brings several benefits to customers, particularly those struggling with the complexity of managing multiple security systems. The integration allows businesses to centralise their security operations and eliminate the burden of constant alerts through automation, significantly improving incident response times.

Among the key benefits are:

  • Centralised security operations: A unified view across the entire Veeam environment, enhancing awareness and protection against threats.
  • Easy configuration: Pre-configured dashboards and monitoring tools ensure a smooth setup process.
  • Automated responses: AI-driven automation minimises manual processes and reduces alert fatigue, speeding up responses to potential security breaches.
  • Scalable strategies: Businesses can implement large-scale security solutions without overwhelming their teams.
  • Regulatory compliance: The integration supports regulatory requirements and helps businesses meet recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO).

Frank Dickson, Group Vice President of IDC’s Security & Trust Practice, highlighted the significance of this partnership: “Many enterprises have over 100 security products, creating the necessary but very unwanted job of being a cybersecurity systems integrator. Veeam and Palo Alto Networks are looking to alleviate the integration burden with their new strategic partnership.”

The combined power of Palo Alto Networks’ platforms and Veeam’s data resilience capabilities will enable companies to take a proactive approach to cybersecurity, offering centralised monitoring and enhanced protection for their most critical data. With ransomware attacks on the rise, this partnership delivers much-needed innovation in the cybersecurity space, providing businesses with tools to better manage their data and respond more effectively to the ever-growing threat of cyberattacks.
