Apple chooses Samsung for foldable iPhone screen due to crease-free display

Apple is choosing Samsung Display for its foldable iPhone to avoid screen creases. A major iPhone redesign is set for 2026.

Apple has reportedly chosen Samsung Display as the exclusive supplier of OLED screens for its much-anticipated foldable iPhone. If you’re wondering why Apple made this decision, it all comes down to one key issue—creases.

Samsung’s screen technology leads the way

According to Business Korea, Samsung Display outperformed rivals LG Display and BOE because of its strong advantage in reducing creases on foldable screens. An industry expert mentioned that while Apple ideally wanted to diversify its supply chain, Samsung was the only one that could meet Apple’s high standards. The insider explained, “Samsung was the only viable choice.”

Foldable phones often have problems with visible crease lines along the fold. Although some Chinese brands have made progress in reducing this issue, the creases are still clearly seen from certain angles. Apple seems determined to avoid this flaw with its own foldable iPhone; to do that, it needed the best display technology available.

In February, ETNews also reported that Samsung Display had already met Apple’s strict technical demands and delivered foldable screen samples that showed no visible creases. This confirmed Samsung’s ability to offer the quality Apple is known for.

Apple aims for a stronger, flatter fold

Apple is said to be working with a liquid metal hinge to further improve the design of the foldable iPhone. This hinge is designed to boost durability, help the screen lay flatter when opened, and even reduce crease marks. The goal is to make the folding experience feel as seamless as using a standard iPhone.

Using a liquid metal hinge suggests Apple is paying close attention to the foldable device’s structural quality. By making the fold stronger and the screen smoother, Apple hopes to set a new bar for what foldable phones should feel like.

Samsung Display’s success in crease-reducing tech appears to fit perfectly with Apple’s plan to create a foldable device that doesn’t just follow trends but sets new ones. As a result, Samsung has been chosen as the exclusive screen provider for this next big step in iPhone innovation.

A major iPhone update is coming in 2026

Expect to see the foldable iPhone and what insiders call a “bold new Pro model” as part of a major update to Apple’s iPhone range in 2026. The company reportedly plans a complete shake-up of the iPhone lineup, moving beyond small design changes and taking bigger risks.

If the rumours are true, this upcoming foldable model could mark one of the biggest shifts in iPhone design in years. Apple focuses on new form factors and improved user experience rather than making current models faster or thinner.

This step forward signals Apple’s continued push to lead the smartphone market in performance, design, and durability. With Samsung providing crease-free OLED screens and Apple’s own innovations in hinge design, the foldable iPhone could become a standout product when it arrives in 2026.
