EA has opened a week-long free trial for Battlefield 6, giving newcomers a chance to experience the popular first-person shooter as its player base continues to grow. The Season 1 Free Trial is available now and will run until 2 December at 12 PM UK time. It arrives just ahead of the game’s Winter Offensive update, which is scheduled for release on 9 December.
Free trial details and how to access it
The free trial offers access to three playlists designed for different play styles. Initiation Breakthrough provides a beginner-friendly environment with 48-player matches featuring a mix of human players and bots. Close Quarters Battle focuses on faster action through Team Deathmatch and Sabotage modes, while All-Out Warfare delivers large-scale encounters across Conquest, Escalation, and Breakthrough modes.
Players can try these modes across three maps: the returning Siege of Cairo and the recently added Eastwood and Blackwell Fields. To join the trial, players must download the free-to-play Battlefield: REDSEC experience on their chosen gaming platform.
Those who have already played REDSEC, Battlefield 6’s free-to-play battle royale mode, will find their progress transferred seamlessly. Career Rank, Hardware Unlocks, and Levels, Customisation items, and other earned content carry over into the trial and will continue to be available in the full game if purchased.
EA’s response and community engagement
Byron Beede, general manager of Battlefield, said the team is pleased with the game’s reception and the continued engagement from its fans. “We are extremely proud of what our amazing teams at Battlefield Studios have accomplished and tremendously excited about the community’s passion as we continue to build Battlefield for and with our fans,” he said.
Beede added that the free trial is an ideal moment for new players to discover what has made the game so successful. “Today’s launch of a free trial for Battlefield 6 is the perfect opportunity for new players to have the All Out Warfare experience that millions of players around the world are raving about.”
The trial also serves as a way to welcome more players ahead of the Winter Offensive update, which is set to bring fresh content to the game.
Player numbers and competition with Call of Duty
Battlefield 6 continues to perform strongly across multiple platforms, including Steam. The game has maintained around 215,000 daily players since reaching a peak of 747,440 last month, according to SteamDB data. Its consistent performance has contributed to its reputation as one of EA’s leading titles of 2025.
In comparison, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has struggled to match Battlefield 6’s momentum on Steam, with its player count still yet to reach 100,000. While the latest Call of Duty entry is also available through Game Pass, making full comparisons difficult, the contrast in Steam numbers highlights Battlefield’s current advantage among PC players.
The free trial period may further widen the gap as more players consider switching to or trying out Battlefield 6 for the first time.
