Canon adds video-focused EOS R6 V and first L-series power zoom lens
Canon adds the EOS R6 V and its first L-series power zoom lens for full-frame video creation.
Canon has announced the EOS R6 V, a new full-frame camera designed for content creation, alongside the RF20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ, its first full-frame professional-grade L-series lens with built-in power zoom.
Table Of Content
The EOS R6 V takes the stills and video performance of the EOS R6 Mark III and adapts it for video-led workflows. It adds a built-in cooling fan, a vertical tripod socket for social media formats, a full-frame CMOS sensor with up to 32.5 effective megapixels, and 7K Open Gate recording that uses the full sensor area.
A camera built around multi-format video
The EOS R6 V’s main video advantage is 7K Open Gate RAW and MP4 recording, which gives creators more flexibility when cropping or reframing footage for horizontal and vertical outputs. Canon is pitching the feature as a way to reduce the need for separate shoots when the same footage needs to be repurposed across multiple platforms.
The built-in cooling fan also allows the camera to record 7K Open Gate MP4 for about three times longer than the EOS R6 Mark III. Canon said this makes the camera more suitable for long interviews, live events, and long single takes.
The camera is also designed for vertical content production. Its dedicated vertical tripod socket allows direct mounting without an additional bracket, while the user interface reorientates automatically. The body uses a linear design with fewer protrusions, making it easier to integrate with rigs, attachments, and accessories.
“The EOS R6 V and our first L-series power zoom lens mark an important step in empowering Singapore’s fast-growing community of content creators. By combining professional imaging performance with features designed for real-world and on-the-go production, we are giving creators a comprehensive storytelling toolbox, whether they are seasoned professionals or just beginning their creative journey”, said Too Kok Yong, Head of Singapore Operations Group, Canon Singapore.
Power zoom lens supports handheld and rigged shooting
The RF20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ is designed as a compact lens for creators who need wide framing, controlled zoom transitions, and consistent exposure. Its 20-50mm range covers wide environmental shots through to tighter conversational framing, while the constant f/4 aperture maintains exposure across the zoom range.
The lens can be controlled through its zoom ring or the EOS R6 V’s zoom lever. Users can switch between two zoom speeds, with fast and slow zooming configurable across up to 15 levels each. A zoom mode selector switch also allows users to move between power zoom and conventional manual zoom operations.
Canon has kept the lens barrel length fixed during zooming, reducing the need to rebalance support systems. The lens also includes Optical IS, while the EOS R6 V combines five-axis In-Body IS with Digital Movie IS. Together, the camera and lens support stabilisation for handheld, gimbal, and rigged shooting, including Subject Tracking IS.
For solo creators, the EOS R6 V includes a front recording button and tally lamp. The lens zoom ring can be reached from the front, while remote control is available through the Camera Connect app. Canon is also introducing the Bluetooth-connected Wireless Remote Control BR-E2, which adds a dedicated movie shooting button and assignable functions.
Stills performance remains part of the package
Although the EOS R6 V is positioned around video creation, Canon has retained stills performance from the EOS R6 Mark III and EOS C50. The 32.5-megapixel full-frame sensor is designed to support detailed images, cropping flexibility, and 300 dpi A3-sized prints.
The camera supports up to 40 fps continuous shooting with its electronic shutter, as well as pre-shooting and the same autofocus features as the EOS R6 Mark III. Canon said the In-Body IS provides up to 7.5 stops of stabilisation at the centre and 7.0 stops at the image edges for stills.
The RF20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ is built with professional-grade optics to reduce distortion, chromatic aberration, flare, and ghosting. Its Optical IS corrects camera shake by up to 6 stops’ equivalent, and when mounted on an EOS R series camera with In-Body IS, Canon said it can reach up to 8.0 stops at the centre and edges.
Pricing and availability
The EOS R6 V body will retail at S$3,179, while the EOS R6 V kit with RF20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ will retail at S$4,979. The RF20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ is listed at S$2,119. Canon also listed the Tripod Grip HG-200TBR at S$179 and the Bluetooth Remote BR-E2 at S$79. Availability is scheduled for late June 2026.
