Canon launches Colorado XL-series large-format printers for advanced graphics production

Canon launches the Colorado XL-series large-format printers, bringing UVgel technology and advanced automation to high-volume production.

Canon has introduced the Colorado XL-series, a new range of large-format graphics production printers designed to deliver high performance and flexibility for businesses working with both rigid and flexible materials. The 3.4-metre printers expand the proven advantages of Canon’s UVgel technology into the 3.2-metre graphics market and are available in both hybrid and roll-to-roll models.

Expanding capabilities for high-volume production

The Colorado XL-series includes two models: the Colorado XL7 roll-to-roll printer and the Colorado XL7 hybrid printer. Both are built to handle an extensive range of media, including banner, vinyl, paper, films, textiles, foam board, acrylic, and aluminium composite boards. The printers also support substrates up to 52mm thick, enabling businesses to take on diverse and demanding applications.

Productivity is a key focus, with print speeds reaching up to 70 square metres per hour in quality mode, 106 square metres per hour in production mode, and 211 square metres per hour in express mode. These speeds are designed to meet the needs of busy print environments while maintaining high output consistency.

Innovative UVgel technology

Canon’s UVgel technology underpins the XL-series, offering instant-dry, odourless prints that are highly durable and stable due to low-temperature curing. The new UVgel 860 ink set has been optimised for a broad range of uses, while remaining TPO- and VCL-free. The printers also feature the latest UVgel 850 printheads, each with 4,544 nozzles and built-in nozzle monitoring and compensation. Two printheads can cover CMYK printing, with an optional third for white ink.

To enhance curing performance, the series introduces UVgel FullBeam Curing, which uses a 3.4-metre LED curing array combined with a mirror system. This ensures even UV light distribution, delivering uniform colour and print quality across large surfaces. The media transport system has also been refined with the new TRIdrive vacuum belt, which reduces wrinkling and skewing by automatically correcting media positioning.

Optional features include UVgel White for easy white ink printing, FLXfinish+ for mixed matte and gloss effects without extra varnish, and FLXture for producing textured finishes that replicate materials like wood, leather or fabric.

Meeting market demands with automation and flexibility

Canon designed the Colorado XL-series to address growing challenges in the graphics production industry, including the need for skilled operators and increased efficiency. Katsuya (Kurt) Tode, Director of Regional Commercial and Industrial Printing at Canon Singapore, said the printers were created to help businesses scale production and maintain quality while streamlining workflow.

“Our customers in Singapore and across Asia are seeking solutions that address the dual challenges of delivering exceptional print quality and efficiency in the face of a widening talent gap of skilled operators,” said Tode. “The Colorado XL-series is designed to meet these demands, offering a combination of advanced automation, modular design and Canon’s unique UVgel technology.”

The Colorado XL-series will be available in the Asia region from the second half of 2026 through Canon’s authorised partners. An official product video will premiere on 8 October 2025 to give industry professionals a first look at the new platform.
