Google launches Pixel 10 series with new AI features and design upgrades

Google launches Pixel 10 series with Tensor G5 chip, advanced AI tools, redesigned hardware and powerful camera upgrades.

Google has introduced its latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL, marking the 10th generation of its Pixel line-up. The new devices are powered by the custom-built Tensor G5 chip and integrate the latest Gemini Nano model, promising improved performance and more personalised artificial intelligence features. The phones also come with an updated design, enhanced cameras and long-term software support.

A refreshed design and improved build

The Pixel 10 series builds on Google’s signature camera bar design, now refined with a satin-finish metal frame and polished glass back. Each device is crafted with the highest proportion of recycled materials used in a Pixel so far. The models introduce Pixelsnap for built-in Qi2 wireless charging, along with support for new magnetic accessories.

For software, the phones debut Material 3 Expressive, Google’s latest interface that delivers fluid animations and greater personalisation. The series also offers seven years of operating system, security updates and Pixel Drops to ensure devices remain fresh and secure over time.

The Pixel 10 comes in four colours—Obsidian, Frost, Indigo and Lemongrass—with a 6.3-inch Actua display reaching up to 3,000 nits for improved brightness. Audio has also been enhanced with deeper bass for an improved media experience. Photography gets a notable boost with the addition of a 5x telephoto lens, 10x optical quality and up to 20x zoom using Super Res Zoom.

The Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL deliver the most premium designs in the line-up. They feature Super Actua displays in 6.3-inch and 6.8-inch sizes, alongside a triple rear camera system and exclusive Pro Res Zoom, which offers up to 100x zoom. Available in Obsidian, Porcelain, Moonstone and Jade, both models include larger batteries, faster wired charging, upgraded speakers, 16 GB of RAM and wireless charging support up to 25W on the Pro XL.

Powering AI with the Tensor G5 chip

The Tensor G5 processor represents the most significant upgrade since the introduction of the Tensor series, co-designed with Google DeepMind. It delivers faster performance and introduces new on-device AI capabilities.

Among the standout features is Magic Cue, an AI-powered tool designed to provide proactive assistance. It integrates with apps such as Google Messages and Phone, offering relevant information at the right moment. For example, it can retrieve flight details from an email during a call with an airline or surface specific photos when asked in a chat. With user permission, Magic Cue runs privately on the device using Tensor G5 and Gemini Nano.

Google has also introduced Camera Coach, which uses AI to suggest ways to improve photography by recommending better framing or composition. The Pro Res Zoom feature, available on the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL, leverages generative AI to refine details and deliver high-quality close-ups at extreme zoom levels, marking one of the most advanced uses of AI in smartphone photography.

Availability and pricing

Pre-orders for the Pixel 10 series are now open, with prices starting at US$799 for the Pixel 10, US$999 for the Pixel 10 Pro and US$1,199 for the Pixel 10 Pro XL. Customers purchasing the Pro models will also receive a complimentary one-year subscription to Google AI Pro.

The devices will officially be available on 28 August through the Google Store and retail partners worldwide.
