Huawei unveils the Pocket 2: A groundbreaking flip phone with four external cameras

Huawei Pocket 2 - a trailblazing flip phone featuring a unique quartet of cameras, including an AI-powered hyperspectral camera.

Huawei has marked a significant milestone in the evolution of foldable smartphones with the launch of the Huawei Pocket 2. This innovative clamshell device is not just another foldable phone; it’s a technological marvel that boasts the first-ever quartet of external cameras on such a form factor. Let’s explore the intricacies and standout features of the Huawei Pocket 2, a device set to revolutionise the foldable phone market.

Revolutionary camera system: A new era in mobile photography

The Huawei Pocket 2’s camera system is a game-changer. Leading the pack is a 50MP primary camera equipped with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and an f/1.6 aperture, ensuring crystal-clear shots even in challenging lighting conditions. The 12MP ultra-wide camera, with an f/2.2 aperture, is perfect for capturing vast landscapes or large group photos. For those moments when you need to get closer, the 8MP telephoto camera, featuring OIS and 3x optical zoom, comes into play.

However, the star of the show is the AI-powered 2MP hyperspectral camera. This unique addition acts as a UV sensor, informing users of UV intensity through the phone’s external screen. It’s an invaluable tool for sun protection, enabling users to monitor sunscreen coverage on their face and receive personalised skincare advice. This camera also allows for fluorescence photography, offering a new realm of creative possibilities by capturing vibrant, detailed images of plants and more.

Sleek design meets advanced engineering

Huawei has focused on the camera and the design and build quality of the Pocket 2. The new waterdrop hinge, made from aerospace-grade steel, provides a seamless, almost gap-free folding experience. This enhances the phone’s overall aesthetic and durability.

The main display is a 6.94-inch flexible OLED panel boasting a peak brightness of 2,200 nits and a 120Hz refresh rate, offering an immersive and smooth viewing experience. The outer 1.15-inch OLED screen serves as an always-on display for time and date. It can be customised with interactive features like a virtual pet, personalised avatars, or mood-reflecting 3D emoji wallpapers.

Exceptional performance with user-centric features

At the core of the Huawei Pocket 2 lies the powerful Kirin 9000S chipset, coupled with 12GB of RAM and running on the user-friendly HarmonyOS 4. The device is powered by a robust 4,520mAh battery, supporting 66W wired fast charging and 40W wireless charging, ensuring you’re always ready to go.

Huawei has integrated an ultra-cooling vapour chamber to keep the device cool, utilising multiple graphene materials for enhanced thermal conductivity. This ensures the Pocket 2 remains at optimal performance even during intensive use.

Storage options are plentiful, with internal storage ranging from 256GB to a massive 1TB and the ability to expand memory up to 512GB via an NM memory card. Connectivity is also top-notch, with Bluetooth 5.2 and a USB Type-C port.

The Huawei Pocket 2 comes in four elegant colours: Tahitian Gray, Rococo White, Purple, and Black, and is priced starting from 7,999 yuan (about S$1,494), offering a premium experience that blends style with state-of-the-art technology.
