Lenovo’s new Legion 9i gaming laptop offers 2D and 3D displays with a unique carbon fibre lid

Lenovo's new Legion 9i gaming laptop features a 2D/3D screen, carbon fibre lid, and top specs. It will launch in China soon and globally this autumn.

Lenovo has just revealed its latest flagship gaming laptop, the 10th-generation Legion 9i. This high-performance machine is expected to launch in China soon and arrive in North America in the autumn. Built for serious gamers, developers, and creative professionals, the Legion 9i stands out for its power, impressive display, and unique design.

A screen that shifts between 2D and 3D

One of the Legion 9i’s most eye-catching features is its optional 18-inch display that switches between 2D and 3D modes. In 2D mode, the screen resolves 3840 x 2400 and refreshes up to 240Hz. When set to 3D, it changes to 1920 x 1200 resolution. You can also opt for a dual-mode setup, where the display runs at a super-fast 440Hz in 1920 x 1080 while in 2D.

What’s remarkable is that the 3D mode doesn’t need special glasses. Instead, it uses eye-tracking and a lenticular lens to give you a 3D effect visible to the naked eye. Lenovo says this setup is ideal for developers, 3D artists, and gamers who want a more immersive experience. The company’s software already supports around 30 games playable in 3D, although the full list hasn’t been released yet.

Built for serious power and expandability

Under the hood, the Legion 9i doesn’t hold back. It can be configured with the top-tier Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor and the latest Nvidia RTX 5090 graphics card. If you need plenty of memory and storage, this laptop supports up to 192GB of RAM and a whopping 8TB of SSD storage.

Even better, you’re not stuck with a factory build. The Legion 9i includes four RAM slots and four SSD slots accessible to users, so you can upgrade or change the setup to suit your needs later on. That’s a rare and valuable feature in today’s laptop market.

However, Lenovo hasn’t announced pricing details just yet. Whether you’re considering the base model with a 4K screen or the top-of-the-line version with all the extras, we’ll have to wait and see how much it will cost.

Modern ports and a striking carbon fibre design

As a large laptop meant to replace a desktop, the Legion 9i is packed with connectivity options. You’ll find two Thunderbolt 5 ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (three Type-A and one Type-C), an ethernet port, HDMI 2.1, and even a full-sized SD card slot. For wireless connections, the laptop supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

The webcam also varies slightly depending on the screen you choose. For the standard 2D screen, you’ll get a 5-megapixel camera with an f/2 aperture. The 3D version comes with a faster f/1.6 lens. Both have a physical kill switch for extra privacy.

The laptop has a unique visual appeal thanks to its carbon fibre lid. Lenovo says each lid is crafted from eight carbon fibre layers, making it stronger and lighter than aluminium. What’s more, each unit has a one-of-a-kind pattern, so no two laptops look exactly the same.

Although we don’t know the price, the Legion 9i is already drawing attention for its bold features and sleek design. If you’re after a gaming laptop that’s both powerful and packed with the latest tech, this might be the one to watch when it launches later this year.
