LG has unveiled its latest Gram and Gram Pro laptop lineup updates, introducing advanced AI capabilities and upgraded hardware that promises a blend of performance and innovation. The new models bring lightweight design, enhanced processing power, and improved functionality, offering offline and cloud-based AI tools to redefine the user experience.

Enhanced hardware with cutting-edge processors

The 16-inch Gram Pro is the first in the lineup to feature Intel’s Lunar Lake Core Ultra V-Series processors, marking it the exclusive Copilot Plus PC in the Gram range. For those seeking variety, the 17-inch Gram Pro and the 16-inch Gram Pro 2-in-1 models utilise Intel’s Arrow Lake Core Ultra H-Series processors. These high-performance chips ensure faster processing and greater efficiency, catering to productivity and creative needs.

The Gram Pro series has impressive specifications, including 16-inch and 17-inch models with 2,560 x 1,600 resolution displays, up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, and up to 2TB Gen4 NVMe SSDs for storage. Graphics capabilities differ slightly across models. The 16-inch Gram Pro and 16-inch 2-in-1 versions feature Intel Arc GPUs, while the 17-inch Gram Pro is equipped with the powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX4050, ideal for graphic-intensive tasks.

AI-powered features for smarter use

LG has incorporated artificial intelligence into its latest lineup with two primary tools: Gram Chat On-Device and Gram Chat Cloud.

  • Gram Chat On-Device: Built using a small language model derived from LG AI Research’s EXAONE large language model, this feature supports offline capabilities. It includes the Time Travel tool, enabling you to quickly revisit recently accessed web pages, documents, videos, and audio files without an internet connection.
  • Gram Chat Cloud: Powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, this cloud-based tool provides detailed responses to user inquiries and integrates seamlessly with email and calendar applications. However, it requires an active internet connection and is only offered for free in the first year.

These features position LG’s Gram laptops as direct competitors to Microsoft’s Copilot Plus and Apple Intelligence, although the real-world performance remains to be seen.

Additional features and plans

LG’s Gram Link 2.0 enhances the usability of these laptops by simplifying file sharing between devices. This tool allows for streamlined document transfers, whether Android or iOS-based, across PCs and smartphones. Additionally, you can take phone calls directly from the laptop, eliminating the hassle of switching headsets or Bluetooth devices.

LG plans to introduce its entry-level Gram Book to the US market in 2024 for those seeking a more affordable option. This model will be powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, featuring a 15.6-inch full HD display with a 60Hz refresh rate. It will include up to 1TB of SSD storage, 16GB of DDR4 memory, and a 720p webcam for video calls.

With these updates, LG continues to expand its Gram range, offering something for everyone, from casual users to professionals needing powerful and portable devices.
