Mercedes-Benz brings Microsoft Teams video calls to your car – even while driving

Mercedes-Benz now lets you join Microsoft Teams video calls using your in-car camera while driving, starting with the all-new CLA model.

If you’re someone who wants to stay in touch with work even while driving, Mercedes-Benz has a new feature just for you. The luxury carmaker is introducing in-car video calling via Microsoft Teams – and yes, you can now keep your camera on during meetings while you’re driving.

Mercedes-Benz is the first car brand to allow drivers to use the in-car camera for Microsoft Teams calls while the vehicle is in motion. However, it comes with a few important safety limits. Although your colleagues can see you during the drive, you won’t be able to view any shared slides or screens until the car is stationary.

This move is part of a growing trend to blend work and mobility, though it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. For many, the car is one of the last places to escape work notifications – but for those eager to stay constantly connected, this new update could be a welcome change.

Camera on, but content off

While Teams, Zoom, and WebEx have been available in some vehicles, they typically only work when the car is parked. Mercedes-Benz is changing that with this update, making it clear the feature is aimed at professionals who want to be seen even when they’re on the road.

The Teams call will begin with your camera off, but once you activate the in-car camera, your video feed will stream to others in the meeting. Just keep in mind: while they can see you, you won’t be able to watch anything being shared on the screen, such as presentations or documents, unless you stop the vehicle. That’s to keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

The feature will first appear in the all-new CLA model, as part of a wider set of “productivity enhancements” Mercedes is rolling out this summer. Other models that run on the MB. The OS (Mercedes-Benz Operating System), like the newer E-Class, could also receive this feature soon, especially since many models already come with built-in selfie cameras for apps like TikTok and Zoom.

Microsoft Copilot heads to your dashboard

In addition to Microsoft Teams video calls, Mercedes-Benz is also working closely with Microsoft to bring its Microsoft 365 Copilot system into vehicles. This means you’ll soon be able to manage emails, check your calendar, and organise your day using simple voice commands, all from the driver’s seat.

According to Mercedes-Benz, this new voice-controlled tech could transform your car into a “third workspace,” alongside your home and office. While that idea may sound exciting to some, others might prefer keeping their car as a place to unwind rather than tackle yet another inbox.

Still, this step forward in tech integration reflects how seriously carmakers are taking the future of mobility, not just as a means of transport, but as part of your everyday digital life.

Whether you’re thrilled or hesitant about the idea of working from your car, one thing’s clear: the lines between work and the rest of life are continuing to blur. And Mercedes-Benz is right at the forefront of that shift.
