Motorola Solutions introduces AI nutrition labels for safety and security tech

Motorola Solutions launches AI nutrition labels to boost transparency in public safety and enterprise security technologies.

Motorola Solutions announced that it will begin including AI nutrition labels across its portfolio of safety and security technologies. These labels will offer straightforward details about the type of AI used in each product, the purpose of its application, data ownership, and the level of human control involved.

The approach is modelled on traditional food nutrition labels, which were created to help consumers understand what goes into what they consume. Motorola Solutions is applying that same logic to artificial intelligence, aiming to demystify how AI operates within safety-critical systems.

“It is our unwavering conviction that technology – including AI – is the bedrock for safety and security, and it must be deployed with purpose and transparency to fulfil its promise as a force for good,” said Mahesh Saptharishi, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Motorola Solutions. “Nutrition labels help describe AI’s use in protecting neighbourhoods and nations, and we are proud to take a lead role in bringing greater transparency to AI innovation.”

Enhancing understanding in complex situations

The new labels are part of Motorola Solutions’ wider effort to explain how AI supports critical decision-making during incidents. According to the company, AI plays a central role in its connected ecosystem of technologies, which are built to deliver accurate and timely information during emergencies.

“Safety threats often unfold at a scale, speed and sophistication that can outstrip any one person’s capacity to make sense of the situation,” Saptharishi explained. “AI can ingest, learn and cross-reference data to provide contextual understanding. At Motorola Solutions, we design our AI-enabled technologies to augment human focus, effort and performance when seconds matter most. Our AI nutrition labels will bring added clarity to the important role AI is playing in helping to protect people, property and places.”

Motorola Solutions’ AI strategy is based on delivering an assisted experience—helping professionals prioritise their actions through AI-generated insights that make complex, fast-moving data more manageable and meaningful.

Part of a broader commitment to ethical AI

The initiative is led by the Motorola Solutions Technology Advisory Committee (MTAC), a cross-functional advisory group within the company that guides its approach to the ethical development and use of technology. MTAC serves as the organisation’s ‘technical conscience’, offering oversight on the limitations and societal impacts of its products.

By introducing these labels, Motorola Solutions aims to reaffirm its commitment to responsible innovation and provide assurance that its technologies are designed to enhance—not replace—human decision-making in critical moments.

The company views the launch of AI nutrition labels as a step forward in building trust, not only in its products but in the role of AI within public safety and enterprise security more broadly.
