Pure Storage and Kioxia collaborate to transform hyperscale data centre storage

Pure Storage and Kioxia collaborate to deliver scalable, energy-efficient, and high-performance storage solutions for hyperscale data centres.

Pure Storage and Kioxia Corporation have joined forces to address the growing challenges of data storage in hyperscale environments. By combining Pure Storage’s advanced data storage systems with Kioxia’s QLC flash memory, the partnership aims to deliver a scalable, high-performance, and energy-efficient solution tailored for modern data centres.

Tackling the limitations of traditional storage

As data volumes continue to surge, hyperscale environments demand more efficient and reliable storage solutions. Traditional hard disk drives (HDDs), while prevalent, are increasingly unsuitable due to their slower speeds, scalability limitations, and higher energy consumption. These issues create barriers for organisations managing large-scale data, such as increased latency and restricted bandwidth, while also contributing to unsustainable power usage and physical space requirements.

“Collaborating with Kioxia allows Pure Storage to bring the full potential of all-flash storage technology to hyperscale environments,” said Bill Cerreta, GM of Hyperscale at Pure Storage. He explained that Pure Storage’s decade of experience in managing flash systems for enterprise businesses is now being channelled into innovations for hyperscalers. “Together, we’re creating a solution that empowers organisations to manage their data seamlessly, with speed and efficiency at the core.”

This new platform is designed from the ground up to eliminate the limitations of HDD-based systems, delivering a more sustainable and scalable storage solution for hyperscale operators.

Innovations in performance, cost, and sustainability

The partnership promises to deliver several key benefits for hyperscale data centres:

  • Enhanced performance: The new platform provides ultra-fast, low-latency capabilities for managing massive, data-intensive workloads. This allows organisations to scale quickly and reliably, keeping pace with growing customer demands.
  • Cost optimisation: By reducing the need for extensive physical resources, the solution lowers total cost of ownership (TCO) while offering better scalability. This is achieved without compromising on performance.
  • Sustainability improvements: The system significantly reduces energy consumption compared to traditional HDD-based solutions, decreasing operational costs and hardware waste. A smaller physical footprint further supports the shift toward more sustainable data centre operations.

Caesar Ichimura, Chief Marketing Officer at Kioxia Corporation, emphasised the importance of innovation in meeting hyperscale demands. “Our collaboration with Pure Storage marks an exciting milestone in the evolution of hyperscale storage,” he said. “As data volumes continue to explode, we’re committed to delivering a solution that combines high performance with lower operational costs. All-flash technology is the future of storage, and through this collaboration, we are driving the innovation needed to address the complexities of today’s hyperscale environments.”

Shaping the future of hyperscale storage

This collaboration not only addresses current challenges but also sets the stage for future advancements in hyperscale data centres. By prioritising efficiency and sustainability, Pure Storage and Kioxia are redefining what’s possible in modern storage solutions, ensuring that data centres can scale to meet tomorrow’s needs without compromising on environmental or operational goals.
