Salesforce and OpenAI join forces to transform enterprise work and commerce

Salesforce and OpenAI are partnering to integrate frontier AI and CRM tools, transforming enterprise workflows and conversational commerce.

Salesforce and OpenAI have announced an expanded strategic partnership aimed at transforming how enterprises operate and engage with customers. The collaboration combines Salesforce’s Agentforce 360 platform with OpenAI’s frontier models, including GPT-5, to deliver integrated experiences across both platforms. The move signals a shift from traditional point-and-click software to agent-driven, conversational workflows designed for a new era of productivity and commerce.

The partnership introduces seamless access to Salesforce’s capabilities within ChatGPT, enabling users to query sales records, review customer conversations, or create Tableau visualisations directly through natural language prompts. At the same time, developers can build AI agents and prompts using OpenAI models within Salesforce’s ecosystem. Businesses will also be able to reach hundreds of millions of ChatGPT users in the United States with new commerce capabilities while retaining full control over their data, processes, and customer relationships.

Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, said, “Our partnership with Salesforce is about making the tools people use every day work better together, so work feels more natural and connected. It’s an important step in how AI can improve daily workflows under our efforts together.”

Marc Benioff, Chair and CEO of Salesforce, added, “As consumers, we already get instant recommendations or insights from ChatGPT. Now enterprises can deliver that same intelligence and immediacy. By uniting the world’s leading frontier AI with the world’s #1 AI CRM, we’re creating the trusted foundation for companies to become Agentic Enterprises.”

Unified experiences across platforms

The integration spans multiple environments, starting with Salesforce’s Agentforce 360 apps, which will soon be accessible through the Apps in ChatGPT programme. This will bring CRM data, enterprise intelligence, and Tableau visualisations directly into ChatGPT conversations, allowing employees to work with business data in a more intuitive way.

Agentforce Commerce will integrate with the Agentic Commerce Protocol, powering Instant Checkout within ChatGPT. This allows merchants to reach a vast new audience while maintaining complete control over orders, payments, fulfilment, and customer relationships.

Collaboration tools are also being enhanced. The ChatGPT app for Slack introduces AI-powered features that enable teams to generate insights, summarise discussions, and draft content within their usual workflows. It also improves Slack’s search functionality by incorporating internal knowledge from ChatGPT-connected tools. Meanwhile, Codex — OpenAI’s code-writing agent — can now be tagged directly in Slack conversations to automate programming tasks and deliver completed results in Codex Cloud.

Salesforce will also integrate OpenAI’s reasoning, voice, and multimodal capabilities into its Agentforce 360 platform. Customers can choose OpenAI as their default large language model for Salesforce’s Atlas Reasoning Engine and Prompt Builder, while applications such as Agentforce Sales will gain access to enhanced contextual intelligence and faster analysis.

Transforming work and commerce

The partnership aims to make AI a seamless part of the employee experience by embedding intelligence into the tools teams already use. Employees will be able to access Salesforce data and Tableau visualisations using natural language, with OpenAI models adding context and speed to analysis. Developers can collaborate with Codex in Slack as they would with a colleague, while project managers can request automated summaries of quarterly reports for immediate sharing with stakeholders.

For businesses, the collaboration introduces new ways to connect with customers through conversational commerce. By integrating Agentforce Commerce with Instant Checkout in ChatGPT, merchants can present product catalogues to users searching for relevant items and enable secure, embedded transactions without leaving the app. The system uses tokenised, privacy-compliant transactions powered by Stripe, reducing integration costs and accelerating time to market.

A sportswear retailer, for example, could make its latest hiking boots visible to users searching for outdoor gear within ChatGPT and complete sales instantly, all while retaining ownership of the customer relationship. This integration of commerce into everyday conversations turns consumer intent into completed transactions in a single interaction.

Availability

OpenAI’s frontier models are already available within the Agentforce platform. Agentforce 360 apps and Agentforce Commerce integrations within ChatGPT will launch later this year. ChatGPT and Codex are available now in Slack.
