Seagate Technology has announced a strategic alliance with Acronis to provide secure and scalable archival storage solutions aimed at managed service providers (MSPs) and global enterprises. The collaboration comes as organisations face rapid data growth driven by artificial intelligence adoption and increasing regulatory demands.
New storage solution for long-term needs
Through this partnership, the companies will launch Acronis Archival Storage, a secure, compliant and cost-efficient storage option designed for infrequently accessed data. The service, which is fully integrated with the Acronis platform, offers a predictable pricing model without extra charges for API usage or data traffic, a common practice among other vendors.
Acronis will incorporate Seagate’s Lyve Cloud Object Storage into its solution. The S3-compatible platform offers enterprise-grade security with features such as encryption for data in transit and at rest, identity and access management, immutability options, and role-based access controls. Lyve Cloud also meets recognised standards including ISO 27001 and SOC 2.
Supporting compliance-heavy industries
The offering is tailored for MSPs and IT leaders operating in highly regulated sectors such as healthcare, finance, legal services, utilities and public administration. These industries are required to retain large volumes of data for extended periods, often spanning years. The alliance aims to help organisations store such data more economically while still meeting compliance and audit requirements.
Melyssa Banda, Senior Vice President of Edge Storage and Services at Seagate, said: “Acronis has been at the forefront of delivering innovative cybersecurity and backup solutions, including secure data management capabilities for hybrid cloud environments. By joining forces, Seagate and Acronis can leverage our combined global reach to deliver the highly secure storage solutions that the new frontier of AI requires—empowering enterprises to better protect their data from cloud to edge to endpoint.”
Addressing growing storage challenges
The collaboration is expected to strengthen Acronis’ ability to deliver mass-capacity storage while helping customers better manage the economic and compliance challenges associated with rapid data growth. Industry figures suggest that over 60 per cent of organisations now manage more than one petabyte of data, creating a pressing need for reliable long-term storage.
Gaidar Magdanurov, President of Acronis, said: “Seagate’s global leadership in mass-capacity storage perfectly aligns with Acronis’ goal to offer MSPs the integrated archival storage that prioritises security, compliance, and cost efficiency. With over 60% of organisations managing over 1 PB of data, archival storage is a necessary solution to keep storage costs manageable. Our partners will be able to address the rapidly growing demand for long-term storage of data, and address compliance, legal, and security requirements of their customers.”
By combining Seagate’s storage expertise with Acronis’ cybersecurity and data management capabilities, the alliance is positioned to deliver long-term solutions that help organisations handle the demands of modern data growth while ensuring security and compliance.
